1) Let the end of the year countdowns begin!  The New York Times is out with their list of the 100 Notable Books of 2014.  My Kindle is full.  Prefer shorter reading material?  Longreads has the best long-form articles of 2014.

2) Need a clutch for holiday fetes?  Let’s see what we can find for under-$50.  This oversized crystal-embellished clutch is sparkly, yet modern.  This mirrored clutch is like your own personal disco ball.  And this slim, leather envelope clutch is as sleek as it gets.

3) Chris Rock’s interview with New York magazine is a must read.

4) The Julep Plie brush will change the way you paint your nails.  The longer brush handle gives you maximum stability.  And now, Julep has redesigned it for use with any brand of polish.

5) Businessweek ranks and discusses the 85 ideas that changed history.  I quibble with the order, but it’s still neat to look through the list.

6) I’m still on the hunt for inexpensive sweaters to get me through the winter months.  Luckily, Piperlime has some lovely choices.  I adore this jeweled sweatshirt.  This sweater has a relaxed shape and lovely ribbon details.  This blanket sweater is perfect for the airplane or a long car ride.

7) Tugce Albayrak is a hero who stood up for two teenage girls who were being harassed by a group of men in Germany.  Later, one of the men retaliated by hitting her in the head with a bat.  She died days later.  No good deed goes unpunished.

8) The Outnet clearance sale is on.  I grabbed this $84 cashmere sweater, but there is plenty to buy or just ogle.

9) 21 Manhattan women reveal the dumbest thing they spend their money on.  No surprise, the big winner was food delivery.

10) This camel and grey coat from Anthropologie is to die for.

11) Cosmo has a list of concealer tricks that can help even the most clueless makeup user improve her look.  The triangle under the eye tip + Maybelline Age Rewind concealer and a translucent setting powder = Magic.

12) Raoul is one of my favorite dress designers.  This pale pink dress with a folded peplum is gorgeous, and this lattice panel dress is the perfect day-to-evening dress.

    #9 is hilarious, hilarious, hilarious!

  3. Addie says:

Loved the article on stupid things people spend their money on! Mine is definitely cab fare. When I’m having a terrible day, the thought of dealing with the metro just makes me want to cry so I call uber and fork over totally unnecessary cash

  4. Rachel says:

That the longreads list doesn’t include Ta’Nehisi Coates “The Case for Reparations” almost makes the entire list invalid.

  5. Lauren says:

Thank you for sharing the article on dumb things women spend money on. While I’m not in Manhattan, or even a big city, I’m guilty of throwing money at things I don’t need, or that will not hold value, just for the momentary feelings that purchase provides…definitely making me think about changes I want to make, particularly with the start of a new year ahead 🙂

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
