Mango Fitted Dress ($79)

This week, the posts focused on my wardrobe staples.  No item rotates more frequently through my closet than comfortable dresses.    I want a sheath or shift style, a fabric that feels good, and a look that can go from work to casual to dinner with ease.  This Mango dress has everything that I’m looking for in a frock.

Looking for something that fits into the work box?  This black dress from Gilt has the fit and function that I love for $129.  NYDJ has a long-sleeve sheath in a mix of black and navy.  This DKNYC dress has a cool ruched detail and an asymmetric hem.

If you need something in the under-$100 category, this Brigitte Bailey dress comes in four fabulous colors.  This charcoal Kenneth Cole dress is also a great choice.

My final recommendation is this dress from Athleta.  It comes in three colors (I love the purple), and every size range–misses, petite, tall, and plus.

Just a warning- while the Brigitte Bailey dress feels really nice and is a good basic, it’s a LOT shorter than it looks on the model. I was hoping for it to double as a casual dress and a work dress with a blazer, but it’s definitely too short. I’m 5’6″ for reference.

  2. The Kenneth Cole option is fab. I’m picturing it with some colored tights to keep it bright.

I pretty much live in dresses like this during the winter.

Dresses like this are my winter uniform. For cheap people like me, Old Navy has a bunch of similar dresses, as well as fit and flare styles and fit and flare dresses, in the under $50 point for regular, petite, and plus sizes.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
