Hanky Panky Bare Eve Thong ($22)
I hate visible panty line. Whether you’re wearing a business suit, a chic dress, or leggings, VPL ruins outfits. It’s also inappropriate. But, luckily, it is preventable. I love HP’s Bare line for their smooth comfortable fit. If you’re thong averse, HP also makes a seamless boyshort.
Need something less expensive? These H&M microfiber thongs are a good option. Calvin Klein also makes an “invisible” thong that you can often find on sale. But the best low-price option that I’ve found are the Gilligan and O’Malley seamless thongs at Target.
Looking for boyshorts? Don’t search for “seamless” options. Instead, look for laser cut ones. Wacoal markets their Edgewise bikini for $15. H&M also offers a microfiber brief, and Calvin Klein offers an Invisibles hipster.

Commando makes some plus size seamless thongs that are awesome. And Cacique through Lane Bryant has many plus size seamless options, from thongs to boyshorts.
Hanky Panky has a petite low rise. I’m 5’2″ and own both petite and regulars sizes; the regular has a higher rise.
I’ve tried the Target alternative to HP thong, and was very disappointed. The low rise HP thong always sits on my hip bones very comfortably. The Target version is high rise and continues to rise throughout the day – usually settling somewhere around my belly button. Very uncomfortable for anyone used to the low rise.
I completely agree on the high rise, I can’t wear them with most of my jeans, and they’re exceedingly narrow, I don’t want to have to wax THAT much.
Seconding the fact that the Target varities of HPs products (both the bare one and the classic lace) are indeed very high rise. That’s great if you’re into that, but with wide hips (pear-shaped) and prominent hip-bones, they wind up slipping up over my hip bones and…ugh. Not good.
I picked up the DKNY version at the last Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and LOVE them. I also love their lace bikini and thong, and the cotton hipsters. They were $7 each on sale, $12 (3 for $30) normally.

I get that a VPL can mess up the line of an outfit, but I am bothered by the idea that it’s inappropriate. To be clear, I’m not saying it isn’t inappropriate — I always try to avoid it — but it rubs me the wrong way as yet another example of the societal pressures on us as women to conform to certain appearance expectations. What’s inherently inappropriate about the occasional confirmation that a woman is wearing (presumably more comfortable/covering) underwear, so long as the clothes aren’t otherwise inappropriately tight? (Confirmation that could only come from staring at our butts!) I think it’s inappropriate to have a bra strap showing, but is it also inappropriate to have the occasional angle at which you can see the outline of a strap/band through a top (because sometimes that’s going to happen even if you’re totally covered and the bra fits correctly)?
Just venting.
I would think it was just as inappropriate if I could see the top of a man’s boxers or something like that.

I haven’t tried them but Uniqlo sells underwear that look and feel like they would be super comfortable.
I actually recently bought a pair of invisible line underwear from uniqlo. so far, so good, pretty comfortable. Whether they’re durable and will last long remains to be seen.
I’m all for fashion and also am against the VPL but, and this may be a bit much for the normal topics in your comments section, all that synthetic fiber allowing HP and other similar panties to stretch so much are really bad for the lady parts. I was having some issues down there (I wore VS’s Lacie almost everyday) and talked to my Dr. about it and she suggested switching to all cotton underwear. Made a WORLD of difference. Not saying it’s the best option for every day and for every outfit, but I think women got to mix it up with some good old fruit of the loom cotton underwear once in awhile in order to keep things normal.
I second this, as I had a similar health issue. Thongs may prevent VPL, but they’re just not good for your lady parts – they need to breathe!. I choose my health and comfort over judgmental people who shouldn’t be staring at my butt all day anyway.
I’ve mitigated this somewhat by only sleeping in cotton underwear. I wear the thongs during the day, and then change when I get home. Not a complete solution, but until someone makes a seamless breathable thong, it’ll do.
