Ask Belle: Dark Polishes for Fall

Oct 7, 2014

Dear Belle,

Dark nail polish is my favorite winter beauty trend.  Do you have a favorite color?  I’m looking for a new color to try.

Love the blog and glad you kept posting after your move. Laine

Ooh, favorite nail colors.  So many to choose from…let me think…

NARS Crossroads ($20)

My new favorite purple is this NARS hue.  It’s ashy with a deep amethyst color.  I also love my old standbys NARS Purple Rain and Tokaido Express.  Yeah, I like purple.

russian navy

OPI Russian Navy ($8)

My favorite shade of dark blue is still OPI Russian Navy.  It has a shiny, not-too-black color that I adore.  I also like Butter London’s Royal Navy.

Other choices that are great for fall/winter?  Jin Soon Jasper is a fab deep burgundy.  Fingerpaints charcoal polish is a great option if your into grey.

Need your polish to last longer?  I love Deborah Lippmann’s Gel Lab base and topcoat.  It helps keep my polish chip-free for at least 7-10 days, sometimes longer.

Gah! I LOVE all these dark colors, but being the palest person on the planet, every time I try them I look gothic.

  2. Anna says:

From a fellow ghost – I found that burgundy (but not one that is too red) is actually pretty flattering for me. I tend to look better in colors that aren’t too close to black, but the darker hues are a nice contrast to my skin. It just has to be a very pigmented color as opposed to just really dark.

    Revlon Vixen is the best!

  4. AnneM says:

Essie’s “Wicked” will always be my go-to winter polish.

  5. SELINA says:

very nice alternative to winter nailpolish!

LOVE Russian Navy. Just got in done in with gel polish at a salon for $18 (such a steal for 2+ weeks of perfect nails!)

Big fan of Jamberry’s Stormy Seas lacquer. Really pretty navy and great 5-free lacquer. I love it so much, I started selling Jamberry so I can get it with my discount. Not trying to sell anything, so i am not including my link 🙂

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
