This week’s outfit is from Anh at the blog 9-to-5 Chic. I love the crisp whites, the sophisticated, minimalist look and the pop of burgundy. Anh’s look is perfect for after-work drinks or a work dinner, but I wanted to alter it slightly to fit the dress code of a professional office.
One. As I mentioned this morning, Iris & Ink makes a lovely, simple blouse. Looking for something a bit cheaper without pockets? Try this Joie blouse on sale at Neiman Marcus Last Call. For something a bit different, I love this textured, tie-neck blouse from Mango. It’s fabulous.
Plus-size? Try this Vince Camuto surplice blouse. Petite? Have a look at this silk pullover blouse from J. Jill.
Two. A chic topper is a fall essential. Trench coats are my favorite part of the change in seasons. Okay, you caught me, boots are my favorite, but trenches are a close second. If this stylish House of Fraser trench is sold out in your size, try this inexpensive H&M trench or this classic London Fog trench (also available in plus-size).
Three. Big tortoise sunglasses remind me of Jackie Kennedy, but if you’re not feeling the large frames, try a pair of Wayfarers instead.
Four. Anh is carrying a sleek burgundy clutch, but I went with a satchel for the office. Need something under-$100? Have a look at this gorgeous H&M bag or this Emperia tote with an interesting shape. Feeling the clutch? This BR number is perfect.
Five. One simple gold bangle is my staple look right now. A stack of bangles is fun, but nothing says classic, chic like one simple bangle. For a lifetime purchase, this Astley Clarke bangle is the thing. Looking for something cheaper? Try this BCBGeneration bangle with a raised texture.
Six. Anh is rocking a pair of flesh-toned pumps, but it’s a little late in the season for those in my mind. I prefer this grey pair. I’d also reach for a pair of snakeskin, tortoise or cheetah pumps.
Seven. Anh is wearing this uber-chic Nicholas skirt with a crossover hem, but it’s a bit pricey. Plus, while that hemline would be fine for a creative office, it would be out-of-place in a professional one. Thus, I chose this quilted midi-skirt instead.
Hi Belle,
Are flesh-tone pumps only for summer? Wondering if I should retire mine for the fall/winter.
I think they can be worn in any season, I’m just tired of mine by the time Sept. rolls around.
Belle, are you no longer offering recommendations for tall sizes anymore? I see many suggestions for petite and plus size pieces, but little if anything in your postings for tall sizes anymore.
I just don’t see very many brands offering tall sizes. Most BR pieces, Ann Taylor, Loft pieces are also in tall, but when I go searching for tall options often there aren’t any or they’re very matronly. I’d rather put up nothing than put up something that I wouldn’t wear myself.
Mango also has a skirt with a similar look “Vent Pencil Skirt”
Dumb question, but: what do you guys do with trenches? Do you dry clean them periodically? I’ve had mine for about two years and have never done anything with it, but I’m wondering if I should be doing something.
Needs to be dry cleaned. Usually once every 2-3 months.
I have a trench I’m trying to get rid of and I preparation I washed it inside out in the washer, hung dry, and then steamed it to get the wrinkles out. Made a world of difference.
I love 9to5Chic! Though I have to say, I’d be terrified to spill anything on this outfit. It is beautiful though!
