State of the Blog: Somebody Needs a Break

Finals was long.  You forget how terrible it is having your entire grade hinge on a single exam.  Returning to school–esp. something as uniquely grueling as law school–has been a very humbling experience.  And I am mentally drained from it.

I’ve spent the past three hours sitting in front of my laptop thinking, “I know there’s an idea in here somewhere!”  But, there’s not.

I think the only thing to do is call it quits for tonight.  I’ll be back tomorrow with a morning post, the weekly reading (because there were some good ones this week) and a happy hour.  Then, I’ll be off until Tuesday.  Hopefully by then, I’ll have something that vaguely looks like inspiration.

See you tomorrow.  xo, Belle

Been there! Take time to recharge. You’ve earned it.

  2. Mel says:

Congrats on finishing your first semester. It gets significantly better from here.

  3. Mrs. Type A says:

Yay! Congrats. It DOES get better. 1L year is the worst when it comes to exam anxiety and grade fear.

  4. s says:

congrats on being done with your first semester.

  5. Meghan says:

Hang in there! Totally know the mental draining feeling so can only imagine how you are feeling with all the studying!!

  6. AP says:

Congratulations! It would be great if you could do another broadcasting style post (Olivia, Claire or Sloan) providing sources from new fall store inventory that help one get the look on the non-Dior budget.

    • Belle says:

I’ll put that on the list.

    • AR says:

Ditto to this but also: the ladies from the show Suits! Hang in there with the finals… the first set are the worst. Law school gets more tolerable each year. And for what it’s worth, as much as I hated the entire process, I love my job and am so glad I went!

  7. Annie says:

Congrats. Agree with those above, law school really does get better after 1L.

  8. Congratulations! And seriously, there are days when your brain is just DONE, and the only thing to do is pour a glass of wine and stair at the ceiling and do NOTHING for a while. Don’t feel guilty, you earned i!

Congrats! Congrats on getting through finals, your first semester and making such a big change in your life and taking us along with you. And thanks for your blog, it’s a bright spot in my routine.

  11. rar says:

Congrats on finishing your first semester! I remember how terrible law school finals were. Nothing like college (tear)!

  12. styledbykdg says:

I went to law school after spending a number of years in the work force after college and it is a real psychological adjustment process – I have been impressed with your ability to maintain they level of your blog during your 1L year. Go you!

  13. Buckeye says:

You rock. Just hang in there! 1L is a grueling year, but the doggedness that you show in running this blog will absolutely translate in law school. It’s a rough road, but you’ll get through! We are all rooting for you!

  14. Ahhh, 1L. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Nope. It was just the worst. But congrats on getting through the first round!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
