Ann Taylor Edgy Trench ($248 + 40%-off with e-mailed code)

Ann Taylor is having a 40%-off Friends and Family promotion when you sign up for the email list.  Here are my picks for the sale.

Outerwear: This trench is one of those items that I’ll need to see in person to make sure the leather isn’t too stiff or shiny.  But I love the unique look from what I can see in the photo.

Toppers: If cardigans are your game (Virginia, ahem!), AT has this lovely dot cardigan and this pale-grey cardigan with an embellished collar.  And this drape knit jacket with a blue melange is the perfect mix of casual and professional.

Shirts: This simple, pleat-front top is a great business casual layering-piece that comes in four colors.  I also love this striped tee with faux-leather sleeves.

Pants: That’s right, pants.  I know, I don’t wear trousers often, but these Signature straight leg pants fit me like a dream with just a minor waist alteration.  They’re a skinny-pant alternative for those of us who aren’t really comfortable in skinny trousers.

Accessories: These Rayleigh ankle-strap pumps are a superbly stylish basic.  AT also has two excellent, neutral scarves–one in basic ivory, one in a black and white blanket weave.

Thanks for pointing out the ivory scarf! I had it in my hand few weeks ago, but it wasn’t on sale at all. Given AT’s penchant for discounting, I figured it was only a matter of time 🙂

I have had the best experience with the Ann Taylor signature straight leg pants. Two and a half years ago, I bought pairs of brown, heathered brown, gray, and black pants during one of the half-off sales. I wear them almost every day, and they still look great.

I own a trench which is similar in style. You can find it in the under $200 coats section on Nordstrom it’s Guess “Colorblock Double Breasted Trench Coat”. The collar, I believe, is much larger than depicted in that picture and if folded properly sits high on the back of the neck and angles downward complementing your cheekbones. The back sort of flares out and I think it’s very flattering. I got it in June during a 40% off sale at Wilsons leather for under $100.

ooh! Can you do a post on rainjackets? I’ll be heading to Ireland in April and I am not finding anything fantastic at the moment. (To be fair, it may not be the best time to buy rain jackets….)
