Ask Belle: White Blazers for Any Season

Aug 5, 2014

Hi Belle,

You always talk about white blazers, and you’ve finally convinced me to buy one.  It’s the end of summer and I want to find one for less than $100, definitely not more than $125.  I’d love some help finding the perfect one.

-Joey

White blazers come in two types: classic and unique.  My advice is to buy a classic, and if you love it, buy something more stylish as well.

For a classic blazer, I like this Calvin Klein one-button blazer.  This Tommy Hilfiger blazer has a nice look to it.  Both would be considered classics for any season.  I also like this Jones New York white blazer that also comes in plus-sizes.  Tahari also makes a nice one-button blazer, but the gold clasp isn’t for everyone.

Asos Slim-Lapel Jacket ($87)

Want something a bit different?  This slim-lapel jacket has a modern look to it.  I also like this drapey blazer from Anthropologie with a ruched sleeve and inverted, notch collar (also comes in petite).

For something more unique, I found this Topshop blazer with a snakeskin texture.  And if you want a stylish evening jacket, this Walter blazer comes in off-white with black trim.  It would look lovely with a black lace top underneath.

Any suggestions for a white blazer with a puff sleeve? I love the structured and dramatic look of a puff sleeve, and have been dying to find one. However, I keep coming up empty.

YES! I too have recently decided I need a white blazer in my life. This post is super helpful!

If you wear it enough something will happen to it. Coffee drips you didn’t notice until it was too late, grease from a subway handrail, the proverbial glass of red wine… Buy a nice one, but don’t obsess. You’re likely to own several as the years go by.

Amen to the above! A white blazer is fabulous. But will inevitably get stained. I highly recommend a nice Ponte knit version, which is super comfy AND machine washable.

For plus size girls, you can currently get white blazers for less than $100 from Cynthia Rowley (TJ max online!), Avenue, or Lane Bryant.

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
