From Left, Sunglasses: Ray-Ban New Wayfarers ($130) Rings: Gorjana Mesa Ring ($45) and Sarah Chloe Geo Ring ($119) Shoes: Sole Society Madelynn Sandal ($28) Necklace: Express Agate Slice Necklace ($50) Bag: Sole Society Patchwork Satchel ($59)

Since we’re talking about casual attire, I made a concerted effort to keep everything affordable.  I like to save my money for clothing that I can wear in a professional setting, and keep my casual clothing more affordable.

For Brunch. This outfit is a relaxed and simple.  The striped dress, the slouchy tote and easy, stylish sandal.  Add a cool pair of sunglasses and you have it made.

I love a long necklace with a striped dress.  The longer necklace draws the eye down, so the stripes don’t widen your figure anymore than necessary.  This split agate necklace is cool, but I also like this long coral-bead necklace or this cobalt starburst medallion necklace.

These sandals are a great buy.  I love the mix of black and snakeskin.  Sole Society also has this simple ankle strap sandals on sale for $30.  I also like these inexpensive Gracee sandals that are basically a Loeffler Randall knock-off.

This satchel has a great relaxed look to it.  I love the textured leather.  I think a hobo bag, like this one from Urban Originals, would also be a good choice a casual outfit.

For the hair, I would wear it up in a bouncy ponytail.  If you’re looking to keep the sun off your face, try a black-banded fedora and a low bun.  For the makeup, keep it light and natural, but add a pop of bright pink on your cheeks.

For an Outdoor Movie. A lot of communities have free outdoor movies at public parks.  In D.C., we have HBO’s Screen on the Green.  But what to wear?

Since it’ll be hot in the early part of the evening but can get cooler after dark, so it presents an opportunity to break out the denim jacket.  Denim outerwear is coming back into vogue, thanks to the ridiculousness that is norm core.  But while I can’t endorse wearing a denim vest if you’re over the age of 24, I do like a classic jacket.  If you want to spice it up, try this white version from Merona.

I chose a simple pair of gold hoops and a large cuff with a bit of color.  If you put on the jacket, I’d probably roll the sleeve a bit to expose the bracelet.  Want something a bit more fun? Try this super cool dot-painted set from TOMS.

While I’m of J.Crew clothing due to declining quality and vanity sizing, I still love their shoes.  I have several pairs and they’re well-made and comfortable.  These espadrille-style wedges are very cute and come in several great colors.  Want something J.Crew free?  Try these LOFT mini-wedges.

Lastly, this shopper also comes in black and is a great weekend errand, knock-around tote.  I also like this H&M shopper with a wider opening.

For the hair, I would pin it up or braid it.  For the makeup, I would break out a little bit of bronzer and a bright lip gloss.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Ask the Editor: Vol. IV, No. Eighteen

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
