1) Tomorrow is the Belmont Stakes. It California Chrome wins, he will be the first Triple Crown winner in my lifetime.  As someone who has been watching horse racing since primary school, I am very excited.  If you’re new to horse racing, this guide is the best one I’ve found.

2) I was searching for a-line skirts for yesterday’s Ask Belle’s when I found this gorgeous skirt at Brooks Brothers.  It’s fantastic.  I also like this peplum ponte dress and this short sleeve dress.  There are also some great sale prices for handbags.

3) VMac + Cheese offers “a little lesson on Veuve Clicquot.”  My favorite tip?  To get the true flavor of the champagne, decant for a few minutes before serving.  It’s incredible how wonderful the flavor is when some of the bubbles are removed.

4) One of the best sales on the Internet is the MyWardrobe sale.  This Michael Kors gathered-waist dress and Raoul t-bar stilettos caught my eye, but there’s plenty of awesomeness to go around.

5) A British girl who died of cancer left her family a secret message that they didn’t find until weeks after her death.  In other touching things found on the Internet, a 100-year-old woman talks about falling in love with her husband.

6) This Reflection Cuff from Anthropologie is wonderfully unique.  Simple and gorgeous at the same time.  I also like this No-So Opal ring in shades of grey and blush.

7) Harper’s Bazaar has a list of the Seven Makeup Tricks That Are Aging You.  I agree with most of these, but I’m not giving up my slightly-metallic Stila Oasis shadow.

8) The best movie that I saw last year is out on DVD. It’s a remarkable documentary about the backup singers for your favorite musical acts.

9) There is nothing like a good rant.  This one, regarding a poorly constructed burrito, is hysterical. Sometimes it is the little failures in life that make us the craziest.  (Warning: There are many curse words.)

10) Saks Off 5th now has a “wear to work” shop.  Not all of the pieces are winners, but there are some diamonds in the rough.  This crepe Black Halo dress is lovely.  And this emerald-green Catharine Malandrino sheath is a true stunner.

11) The equality and freedom of the Internet is in danger if cable companies and internet providers can create faster lanes and charge more for them.  If you want a better explanation of how “net neutrality” will effect you, comedian John Oliver has the explanation.

12) I love Zara. But these sandals are just plain hideous.  Actually, they’re exceptionally hideous.

13) Today is the 70th Anniversary of D-Day.  Thus, I present, Ernie Pyle’s The Horrible Waste of War.

“NORMANDY BEACHHEAD, June 16, 1944 – I took a walk along the historic coast of Normandy in the country of France.  It was a lovely day for strolling along the seashore. Men were sleeping on the sand, some of them sleeping forever. Men were floating in the water, but they didn’t know they were in the water, for they were dead.”

  2. Ashley says:

The burrito rant is good for a laugh!

“Jesus already gave me two burrito forks. One at the end of each arm. They’re called fucking HANDS.”

    Hahahaha

  3. Joules says:

I had no idea Brook Brothers had such cute bags. I’ve definitely got my eye on them now.

  4. Valerie says:

For some reason fugly slip-on sandals are making a comeback. Not only at Zara but some ridiculously priced designer versions too. I’m all for quirky fashion, but seeing models and bloggers wearing a $2000 dress with birkenstocks seems odd.

  5. HMS says:

Like you, I watch the three races every year (and have since I could remember) and after the Derby I get excited about a possible Triple Crown winner. Though, sometimes I find myself hoping it’s not won…just to make the series a bit more legendary.

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
