Ask Belle: Accessorizing a Yellow Dress

May 28, 2014

Dear Belle,

I love some of the yellow dresses that are being shown for Spring and just purchased this one from Boden, but am struggling with how to accessorize it.  I believe it can be dressed up or down, but am at a loss as to what to pair with it.  I love your blog and think you have a wonderful fashion sense, so any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks, Jennifer

That is a really cute summer dress.  The lemon-yellow color is so perfect for the warm weather months.  How about a Two Ways to get you going?

rsz_screen_shot_2014-05-27_at_10647_amDress: Selina Dress from Boden ($153)

From Left, Earrings: Alex and Ani Posts ($28) Bracelets: Ny & Co Bracelet Stack ($35) Belt: Dorothy Perkins Wide Waist Belt ($12) Shoes: Mia Melonye Flat Sandal ($20)

From Right, Earrings: Claudia Rowe Lapis Earrings ($40) Clutch: J.Crew Cork Clutch ($68) Shoes: Nine West Melancholy Heel ($70)

As you mentioned, this is a great look to dress up or dress down.  For this set, I chose to do just that.  The left side uses a flat sandal and a wide belt to bring the dress down a bit.  I also added the green earrings for a bit of color.  And this bracelet stack is a phenomenal buy at $35 plus NY & Co.’s frequent sales and discounts.

If you’d like to try this look with a non-sandal shoe for casual Friday, try this slingback from Corso Como.  You could also try a peep-toe like these low Trotters wedges.

For the dressier look, I chose a lapis earring with a short drop.  I like the mix of yellow and cobalt blue.  I put it with a cork clutch for summer, but if you’d like to bring in some leopard, I like this Minkoff Leo Pouch.

Yellow is a great color to wear on days when you need a pick-me-up.  Try it with shades of blue and green for an easy look.  You can also mix it with neutrals or metallics.

I would wear this dress both ways. So cute! I’m still loving that J Crew cork clutch.

  2. Yellow is one of my favorite colors of summer! Usually I will be caught styling it with blacks, and neutrals, but occasionally, brighter shades of orange/red adds the extra pop for me.
I would totally wear this yellow dress with the green and the blue way..love them both.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
