1) A woman loses 170lbs through hard work and healthy eating.  Shape magazine asks for a photo so they can share her inspiring story.  There’s just one problem, they don’t think her bikini pic is good enough and ask for one of her in a t-shirt.  So what do she do?  Releases the unretouched bikini photo because women don’t have to look picture perfect to be inspiring.

2) This Adia Kibur layered bracelet combines everything I love about Ralph Lauren with the cabled look of David Yurman.  It’s a great $50 cuff that’s anything but basic, but completely versatile.

3) Want to know when fruits and vegetables can be purchased at peak freshness?  Visit RipeTrack.

4) I may not be able to dip into the Zara for a quick look anymore, but that doesn’t mean my love for the brand has waned.  This gorgeous kelly green dress is like summertime in cloth form.  My favorite bucket shopping tote finally comes in grey.  And for $20, this printed, peplum top would look great under a black cardigan with a pair of white jeans.

5) Two college students recover a hit from Frozen.  Their version is called “Do you wanna go to Starbucks?,” and it’s very funny.

6) With the packing and moving, I’ve been wearing my Zella Live In Leggings a lot (also in plus-size).  I dropped by Nordstrom yesterday to pick up another pair when I spotted this multi-way wrap top.  It’s so soft and cozy, I just want to wear it all the time.  I also grabbed another one of their Z5 tees.

7)  Have a stack of business cards you need to organize?  LinkedIn has teamed with Evernote for a must-have app that is sure to get your address book in shape.

8) How do you feel about the kiwi print on this dress?  Part of me thinks it’s charming, part of me thinks it’s too cutesy.

9) Since I can no longer eat at The Source bi-weekly, I’ll need to learn to make steamed pork buns at home.  Thank goodness for Food52 and their copy of the Momofuku recipe.

10) It took me four weeks to find a piece of furniture to sit my television on, but by jove, I think I’ve done it.  I did not think it was going to be so difficult, but there are a lot of ugly, mannish media cabinets out there.  The rest were far too traditional for my taste or fresh out of the 1990s.

11) Lastly, it’s pedicure season, so it’s time to get your feet in shape for sandals.  As I’ve mentioned before, I paint my own toes.  This 10-minute Pedicure tutorial is a good place to start if you want to put your pedicure budget toward another use.

I don’t like to waste my Deborah Lippman Gel Lab top coat on my toes, so I use the quick drying Seche Vite top coat instead.  Also, I couldn’t live without this little brush for cleaning up the bits of nail polish that wound up outside the lines.

  1. I saw that Shape Magazine crapola on her blog. Good for her! That line about having a policy requiring shirts is complete BS. Do they think no one has ever seen their magazine before?

  2. Mandy says:

Could you check the link for the multi-way wrap top from Nordstrom? I got so excited about the top, but the link leads to one of the Zara tops you posted earlier. Thank you!

  3. RecentLawGrad says:

Belle, I think you could get through law school without a backpack and still be able to do your homework with casebooks successfully. During 1L I used an older version of this Tumi bag (https://www.tumi.com/product/index.jsp?productId=20458106&prodFindSrc=paramNav), which is probably about the size of your Lo & Sons bag, and was able to fit my 15″ macbook, paper agenda, pencil case, wallet, sunglasses, and one casebook if needed. Where I needed more than one casebook, I used one of two strategies: (1) my casebooks all came with a code for an electronic version, which I downloaded; (2) the law library had all casebooks available on short-term loan, and I would use those. Then I could keep my own copies at home. This strategy works if you’re not obsessed with highlighting the cases as you read them – if you highlight, you might need to bring more books with you. (I was obsessed with highlighting in 1L but stopped in 2L and 3L. Ain’t nobody got time for that. For the record, my marks went up after 1L, so…)

  4. T says:

Actually as an update, I saw on the Today Show that the woman who lost 170 pounds will be featured in a photo shoot in Shape Magazine. Why does it take an out roar to get what we want sometimes? https://www.today.com/health/woman-whose-weight-loss-bikini-pic-went-viral-gets-shape-2D79644325

  5. I have to say I love Carven, but that print doesn’t do it for me.

I LOVE (really even the all caps isn’t enough) the momofuku pork buns. I think in the momofuku cookbook, though, David Chang notes that he buys his buns. If you live near an Asian grocery this is a much easier option. I cook all the time and I think I know my way around a kitchen but if you have to make the buns that would just be a deal breaker for me.

Finally, it probably counts as too mannish, but I love our media cabinet. It hides all the video games and other wired nonsense belonging to the man in the house and I think looks really cute: https://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1617115&categoryId=search

  6. Joules says:

I actually like the kiwi print. It’s not too cutesy to me because it’s a bit more modern and less clip-arty. That said, I hate, HATE the exposed zip on the back. It looks so tacky.

  7. Erika says:

+1 on the difficulty finding a decent-looking media cabinet! We looked for ages. If you are not into the 1990s mancave style, or willing to spend a fortune on Danish design, there’s very little choice.

The one we got in the end is a compromise but at least it doesn’t have that creepy plastic foil surface.

  8. Michelle says:

I think the kiwi print is cute but I don’t like that the name of the company is written on the front center of the dress. I’d hoped it was a watermark until I spotted it on a few of the photos.

  9. Jess says:

We actually picked up a Buffy/side table from Target to put our TV on. It holds the TV at a nice level and it looks good. The DVD player and Apple TV just sit on the bottom shelf and are barly even noticeable. I love it and it’s perfect for our house.

  10. Ashley says:

I’ve been searching for a new tv stand and I remembered that you had posted a link to one (which at the time, I did not look at). But this stand would go perfectly in my living room! Great find and thanks for sharing!!!

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
