LOFT Ruffle Trim Waist Dress ($89.50 +40%-off)

LOFT is having a 40%-off sale on select pieces, so if you need to stock up on cardigans, dresses, etc. this might be a good time.  I bought the dress above last week to wear to a casual wedding reception next month.  It’s swingy and comfortable and a bold shade of pink.  Plus, when I want to wear it during the daytime, I can just add a wide brown leather belt.

This blurred dotted dress with a v-neck could be worn to work with a cardigan or worn to brunch without.  I love this long, striped boyfriend cardigan.  And since I’m still on an eyelet kick, I adore this black sleeveless top and this short-sleeve eyelet tee.

I know some of you haven’t been happy with the quality of your LOFT pieces.  I’ve been pretty lucky, but I also don’t expect a dress I paid less than $50 for to last more than a dozen wears, so my perspective may be skewed.  Regardless, LOFT is one of the places I like to go when I want a new top or a new dress that won’t break the bank.

I picked up the short sleeved eyelet tee a couple of weeks ago when it was 50% off – I love the look of it but be warned it is super boxy. I ended up taking it back, had it been a little more fitted I would have kept it. It really is a beautiful top though.

I’ve really been struggling with Loft purchases lately–everything feels baggy in the waistline and lower quality than I would expect from the price.

Interesting comment on how much wear you expect from a piece at a lower price point. I’ve thought about that in terms of expensive pieces – they better last forever, LOL! But I’ve never really quantified it the way you have for cheaper clothes – it only cost X so it only needs to last for Y number of wears. Maybe this perspective will help me get over the disappointment I’ve had recently with the quality of so many clothing items out there.

  4. I would think that dress was really cute if it were silk. But with the cost of dry cleaning I just can’t bring myself to buy a polyester dress that’s going to have cost more to clean than it cost to buy after 5 or so wears.

Polyester can be easy to wash, fwiw. Can wash in cold water, not put it in the dryer. I especially like the easy care of the stretchy polyester/rayon dresses that don’t wrinkle.

i have a dress from Target that I paid $15 for new that I’ve had for 13 years. And yes, I expect it to last as long as I take care of it. Obviously, I don’t expect the same level of craftsmanship out of a higher priced clothing. I may wear it differently over time, but I don’t accept the idea of throw away clothing. Take care of your clothes, they should last.

    • Belle says:

We all have cheap pieces that lasted longer than expected, but sometimes I buy trendy pieces that I only intend to wear for a summer or a season, so I don’t get too upset if a hem falls out or the color doesn’t hold, because I wasn’t intending to wear it forever.

  6. bess says:

what stores would you suggest for ‘higher quality/durability clothing at the loft price range?

I like loft, but i don’t buy anything from there at full price, they always have sales ^_^.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
