Happy Hour: Tangerine Dream

Ah, citrus cocktails, my Kryptonite, I am powerless to avoid you.  But what could sound more refreshing on a warm spring day than a Tangerine Mojito from Laylita’s Recipes.  But be forewarned, this is not a low-calorie drink.  It’s made with rum, sugar cane, and a host of other ingredients that are not skimping on the caloric intake, so plan your meal accordingly.  A nice ceviche, perhaps?

Wayf Crepe Shift Dress ($58)

Ah, prints. I’m really feeling the prints right now.  I love this soft feather print with hints of orange, it reminds me of a print that I have in my living room.  It’s a unique and gorgeous combo.

This printed dress from Club Monaco with shades of black, blue and blush is lovely, limited sizing though.  This white T Tahari shift has a cool, geometric print in shades of red.  This French Connection dress in black and white has a great flirty skirt.  You could wear it solo or belt a black blazer over it.

Want prints for work?  This Karen Kane dress with black side panels is a great place to start.  I also like the dot print on this Maggy London wrap dress.

Plus size?  Adrianna Papell makes a lovely white sheath with wide, printed stripes.  I also adore this Calvin Klein dress with a red geometric print on top, and a darker print on bottom.  (Seriously, worth a look.)

Petite?  This Anne Klein faux-wrap has a great spring color palette and long sleeves.  I also love this chevron-printed Eliza J dress with a bright pink belt for contrast.

Tall?  I found this pretty, blue fit and flare at Banana Republic.

Happy Hour

Oh, wow. I have no idea how those sleeves would look on me, but that pattern is gorgeous.

Oh man, what a cool, cool dress! I want to own it. I don’t even want to wear it. I just want to hang it on my wall and look at it.

I mean, what occasion could one wear this dress to? I’d wear it to the office but I think my colleagues would be intimidated by how freaking cool I would be. I’d wear it to a party, but people might think I was some kind of cool artistic hallucination. I’d feel like I need to be extremely witty and chic and eccentric to pull it off. Like I’d need to actually just talk in verse.

Maybe I could slip a pencil skirt over it to tame the awesomeness and then wear it to the office? I’ve done that before with my grey pencil skirt and a belt. Maybe I could pull this off as a top.

That thing looks like one of those thousand dollar dresses.

Am I a bit too obsessed? I may have just had too much caffeine this afternoon.

I wore this dress to a peacock themed bachelorette party in Vegas. Is it “Vegas-y”? No. But I’m not a sheer panel, tight and short kinda gal. I plan on wearing it again to a couples shower in May…

Vegas outfit turned couple’s shower….something isn’t right here.

      Loved it.

      • GoGoGo says:

Cheers guys! You make me smile. 🙂

lhh, I think being the over-dressed classy one at a Vegas bachelorette party is a perfect occasion for this. I totally approve. Nice interpretation of the theme.

I’m totally going to purchase this damn thing, for no reason. I never do that. If you see a girl wearing this in line at the Chipotle around some day, say hi, that will be me.

That dress is gorgeous! I love it. I’ve been very into bright prints and patterns lately too.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
