10th Commandment: April 25

Even though it is barely 40-degrees in Montana, I have hope that it will one day be warm enough to wear sandals.

Steve Madden Kroatia Sandal ($49)

These sandals are a Goldilocks-mix of neutral, classic and casual.  They would look great with any summer ensemble you can create.  If you have you have a brown/tan sandal, this shape also comes in an interesting mix of metallics and a cognac and black combo.

I like sandals that mix neutrals with metallics so this pair from Paolo Bentini in beige/silver and this pair from Ivanka Trump in a gold/brown both caught my eye.  I think a bit of metallic is a great way to brighten up a boring sandal.  If you want all metallic, try these Dolce Vita Abley sandals or these silver Vince Camuto Evora sandals.

Lastly, while I don’t usually like TOMS shoes, these sandals in a cognac and denim color combination look like a great casual shoe to wear with white shorts and an oxford shirt or while strolling the boardwalk.

I’ve had my eye out for some silver sandals for a while now. Thanks for the links.

  2. Those sandals are beautiful. A little more than I like to pay for shoes that have to be thrown out at the end of summer (due to the grossness that is DC sidewalks), but definitely beautiful.

Beware! Rant ahead. But it seems absolutely obscene to pay over $50 for a pair of sandals with $3.50 of materials and a dollar or two of labor in them that will only last the summer (like my Dolce Vita ones did last year). I had a beautiful pair of sandals I bought in Italy that lasted over ten years, but they were nothing like these cheap things, and I sure as heck didn’t pay more than $50 for them. It seems that our obsession with fast fashion has overridden our good sense.

  4. Christina says:

I’ve actually had incredibly good luck with Steve Madden sandals. Every pair I have had has lasted at least two or three summers of intense city walking.

I’ve had pretty good luck with my Steve Madden flats. I wore a gold pair for two years of almost daily wear, nine months per year.

The Range: Grey Jeans for Fall

Sometimes you have to see a piece of clothing in the wild to truly appreciate it, seeing it in the store just isn’t enough. Grey jeans, for example. On a shelf, not for me. At brunch, on a woman who looked relaxed and chic? Now, I need them.

2013 Outfit Restyle: Bring the Tweed

The theme of 2013 was more is more. Wearing a bracelet? Wear five. Add a belt. Add a necklace, maybe two . . . make it three. So when I look at outfits from a decade ago, my first instinct is always: do less.
