_8046557BP Moveover Flat ($49)

I have sung the praises of the BP Moveover flat before, but since some of you might be in the market for flats, I thought I would share them again.  In addition to the “nude” they also come in red, cobalt, and black.  You can also find them in a deep cognac brown.

The reason I endorse the pointed toe flat is two-fold: They look better under pants than round-toe flats because they lengthen the leg, and because they offer a more professional looking structure than most round-toe shoes.  I wear them with jeans, pencil skirts, sheath dresses and trousers.

If you prefer metallics, the Nine West Speakup flat (my second favorite shoe) comes in gold and pewter.  These two-tone Chinese Laundry flats are very cool.  And these Sole Society Lynnette flats offer a springy slingback in black or tan.

Also, I’ve owned a few pair of Via Spiga shoes over the years, so these patent flats are definitely worth a look at 50-percent-off.

Perfect post. I need new pair of nude flats as well as black, and I have a Nordstrom gift card begging to be used!

  2. Casey says:

I just bought these and I love them. They run a little tiny bit big. I wear a 9 in a lot of shoes, but I needed an 8 1/2 in these. I also wear a 8 1/2 in sperry’s, but thats the only comparison i can think of

Just checking – Belle, you don’t wear nude flats with pants other than jeans, right? I’m debating between closed toe and peep toe and trying to decide which one I would get more use out of.

My office is pretty casual and given that comfort is a huge issue for me, I’m leaning towards something like the below. My only pair of Via Spigas are uncomfortable.

Those nine west flats are very cute. That said, I tend to shy away from pointy toed flats because my feet are enormous (size 9.5) and they tend to just make them look huger.

I’m kind of on the same page, except mine are also wide up front so round toe shoes, in addition to looking less professional, also makes my feet look wider. I’m a huge fan of the almond toe. Wish more shoes had it.

I have the Nine West flats and I wear a 10. The way they’re designed, they don’t elongate my foot much. They do look dressier for work than other options – like Belle, I also cringe at many round toe flats I see.

I will say, I’m nonplussed how quickly they’ve worn. I’ve had the Speak Up flats since January – that’s about 12 weeks – and they already need to be reheeled. And I figure I’ve worn them maybe 30 times? I do live in D.C. and walk quite a bit (sometimes as many as 5 miles in one day on concrete sidewalks), but how quickly they’ve worn is unreal. I have some Nine West flats from three years ago that I LOVE and wear as often as 4 days a week in the fall and winter, and they still don’t need reheeled.

  5. Jennifer says:

I own several pairs of 9 West’s Speakup flat (black, nude and red patent, leopard, black suede) and find them super comfortable and a more budget-friendly version of J.Crew’s Viv flats. Other 9 West options include Hatie, which has a gold pointy cap toe and Histericks for some color. It’s a round toe, but the Fiore flat has a mirror metallic half-inch heel, which makes it super professional and a great option for pants. It’s also an alternative for those who liked J.Crew’s Janey flat, which has been phased out. BTW Joules, I have big feet too, but since there is nothing I can do about them, I just wear whatever I want, pointy toes and all! The exceptions are Birkenstocks and Crocs – those comfortable, but awful looking shoes make my feet feel like bear paws!

  6. Jennifer says:

I’ll eat my words. Apparently you can have surgery to alter your feet . . . https://www.glamour.com/fashion/blogs/dressed/2014/04/apparently-women-are-getting-f.html

  7. KA says:

Belle, have you gotten any blisters in these flats? I’ve been eyeing them but for I have a huge problem with blisters. I’ve tried similar looking flats by Via Spiga, J.Crew, and Ivanka Trump – I was eventually able to break in the Via Spigas using strategically placed bandaids but they all eventually went to Goodwill because they tore my feet to shreds! Thoughts on these, or any others you’ve found are particularly good for delicate feet on a long walk to work?!

  8. KRF says:

For those of you with small feet (I am a size 4.5 with very narrow feet), Report Alivia Ballet flats are incredibly similar to the BP flat. I purchased the yellow and cobalt blue colors in a size 3. They fit well and are not too big or too small: https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/report-alivia-ballet-flat-little-kid-big-kid/3625265?origin=category-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=Yellow&resultback=1699&cm_sp=personalizedsort-_-browseresults-_-undefined_5_D

  9. Maura says:

I own these flats and I love them!! I do agree that they run a little big, but I am on my feet all day and they are extremely comfortable!

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
