Everlane Women’s V ($15)

Last month, I ordered some items from a new-ish retailer called Everlane.  The company’s ethos is “radical transparency,” the idea that a retailer should disclose to consumers exactly which factories produce their clothes, and what the company’s costs and profits are.  While I liked their silk blouses, I loved (LOVED!) their v-neck t-shirts.

These t-shirts are the perfect mix of sleek and slouchy.  They fit close enough to the body that you’re not wearing a shapeless box, but they give you that effortlessly cool drape (and some concealment if you need it).  The v-neck is low enough so that you get a subtle hint of cleavage.  And the sleeves are the perfect length.

Also, if you’ve struggled to find cotton tees that weren’t see through, this might be the one for you.  It’s not as heavy as some brands, but the opacity is certainly on the thicker side of the line.  The fabric provides some lightness without being too thin or indiscrete.  I also think the quality is at least three times better than J.Crew.

I liked the v-neck tee so much that I ordered two more in white, one in fog (a pale grey) and another in navy.  The retailer also sells their t-shirts in a slouchier u-neck shape, if you like a more relaxed look. (I wish they made a basic crewneck.)

I adore these t-shirts.  The price is fantastic.  The quality is very good.  If you have been looking for the perfect white t-shirt, this could very well be the one.

Belle: I am desperate for a nice tee to dress up/down. What size did you order, and what size do you wear in J. Crew for comparison?

  2. Anna says:

What do you think about the sizing? I’m usually a 4/small on top, but have never purchased from them. Not sure if they’re like American Apparel where I have to size all the way up to a 6-8.

I size down for Everlane. Their tops are really long.

      • Lynn says:

How long? As a pear shape (who does not always get jeans tailored), I NEED longer shirts to cover the gap at my waste, unless someone wants an eyeful of Hanky Panky. Also, I have a long torso and am really tired of showing my stomach when I raise my arms. Does the shirt hit below hip, at hip, above hip? Thanks!!

    • Liz says:

They run a little big, I agree that you should get a size smaller.

Also FYI, the white one is definitely see through. I LOVE all of Everlane’s t-shirts, but the white one is not opaque.

    • Belle says:

I bought a small, and I’m usually a 2/4 on top. I was happy with that.

I ordered the U neck shirts, one in black and one in white. I really like them. I agree with Belle–the material is much better than what JCrew has been offering. I typically wear an xs or s, and I ordered a s–an xs probably would have been fine. The tees are a little long.

I also ordered the jersey sweatshirt. I love it. It’s soft, perfectly casual, drapey, yet not shapeless. I can’t wash it fast enough. Everlane is definitely worth a try.

  4. C says:

I wear a small in J Crew tops but prefer the medium at Everlane. The small was a bit too tight and didn’t give me the drape that I wanted. Go by their sizing guide – it’s accurate.

  5. Chloe says:

I may have to invest in these. How long is long, ladies that have them? I’m 5′ …

    • C says:

They’re pretty long. I’m 5’8″ and have a long torso, and they still hit below my hips (maybe slightly lower than shown on the model). It’s a comfortable length for me, but it may be too long for others.

  6. Meaghan @ New York Views and Nike Shoes says:

My favorite Everlane product is the terry sweatshirt- SO SO soft and comfortable, can be dressed up or dressed down- I have it in two colors. Highly recommend it!

  7. Anne says:

    I’m disappointed they don’t offer even a size 12.

  8. Anon says:

Has anyone ordered their cashmere sweaters? How do they fit? I’m concerned they might be too slouchy to be work appropriate. Any advice?

  9. amanda says:

They usually do have a crewneck t-shirt but they must be sold out. I assume they’ll bring it back for the spring/ summer.

  10. GoGoGo says:

Thanks for this post. I’d never heard of them and I’m really intrigued to read a bit about them and their business practices. (Is there a catch? I hope there’s not a catch.)

  11. Leigh says:

I swear by Everlane’s tees. I love the fit, the price, and the fact they’re made in the US. They’re also pretty tolerant of being laundered in hotel machines, which even in decent hotels are often untrustworthy.

Everlane did make crew necks last time I bought shirts from them; keep an eye out. They’ll probably come back.

  12. Laura says:

I own this t-shirt from Everlane and love it!

  14. Mary says:

One question about those Everlane tees – my biggest problem with most tees is shrinkage. Is that a problem with these after they’ve been washed/dried a few times?

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
