Blazer: Mango Crepe Blazer ($80)

From the Left, Earrings: Linear Drop Earrings ($80) Scarf: Animal Print Foulard ($20) Bag: Samantha Crossbody Tote ($52) Shoes: Enzo Angiolini Call Me Pumps ($110) Blouse: Chiffon Sleeve Blouse ($60) Pants: Black Slim Bootleg Trousers ($25)

From the Right, Necklace: Blu Bijoux Coral Bib ($34) Ring: Target Wave Band Ring ($15) Bag: Minkoff Heath Tote ($350) Shoes: Edelman Brina Flats ($110) Sweater: Scuba Sleeve Sweatshirt ($60) Jeans: Frame Denim Distressed Jeans ($210)

For the Office. On days when I just don’t know what to wear, I always go back to black.  In this case, black and ivory.  It’s an easy, classic combination that never disappoints.

This outfit combines a sleek off-white blazer and an off-white blouse with a classic black trouser.  This blazer and blouse are both from Mango, so you know the shades of ivory will match.  The trouser I chose is from Dorothy Perkins, but if you’re looking for something better quality, try the 1035 Trouser from J.Crew or these fully lined Lafayette 148 trousers.

Should you want to add a belt, I would choose something skinny with an unobtrusive buckle like this inexpensive belt from Another Line.

I added this leopard print scarf because I loved the mix of off-white, black and charcoal.  Prefer a geometric print?  Try this Lightbox scarf from Vince Camuto, it’s fantastic and under-$50.

I’m still loving the black and navy combination that was so hot last fall, so I added this faux-leather bag with a unique shape.  Not feeling the navy?  Try this grey bag from DKNY instead.

Given that it has silver hardware, I chose these linear drop earrings from Lord & Taylor.  I also like these modern silver hoops from Kenneth Cole.  These pointed-toe Enzo pumps complete the classic look, but if you want a wedge, my friend A swears by these Pour la Victoire wedges.

For the hair, I would wear it up in a teased bun using a hair donut.  For the makeup, I would do a pencil-thin, black liquid liner and a rosy-nude-to-you lip color.

For the Weekend.  As we make the transition into spring, I’ll start working some more pastels and color into my wardrobe.  This pastel sweatshirt from Topshop is a great way to do that.  You could wear them with camel trousers for the remainder of the winter, and then with a navy pencil in the spring.

This look blends the off-white blazer with the pastel top and a pair of distressed jeans.  Depending on your office, you might be able to wear this look on casual Friday.  If you’re in a more conservative office, try these 7 for All Mankind Dojo jeans.  And if you need a pair of inexpensive distressed jeans, I ordered these Old Navy mid-rise jeans, and for just $30, they look pretty good.

The coral and green in the necklace brightens the blush-colored sweatshirt.  If you’re not into that color combination, this necklace comes in several others including coral and lavender and navy and mint.  I also like the modern look of this inexpensive ring from Target.  If you have a bit more to spend, have a look at this Gorjana python ring.

For the bag and shoes, I chose these nude Sam Edelman ankle strap flats and a cognac tote.  I love the studs on these shoes, but if you would rather have a basic pointed-toe flat, try these $40 light tan flats from Steve Madden.

For the hair, I would wear it down.  It adds a bit of femininity to the blazer.  For the makeup, I would add a pink gloss, my favorite is Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster Gloss, and a pop of pink blush.

    Dear Belle,

I am not sure if you received my previous emails so I am sending you this again. I am a pear shaped petite girl. Unfortunately, my pear shape is very pronounced as my chest is 34″ while my hips are 47″ and my waist is 32″. My height is 5’0″. My weight situation is not for lack of trying but somehow I have been unsuccessful keeping it off. Oh well! Plus I live in Michigan so layering is not pretty on me as you can imagine. Can you suggest some cute ways of dressing warm for someone my shape? And I am a graduate student so budget buys would be appreciated. Thanks!

Love to see black pants! I feel like I have lots of pairs, but seem to end up wearing them with boring cardigans. I’d love to see more outfits with ideas on how to wear my black pants. I’d also love to see creative ways to style cardigans.
