BPGP: Acetone-Free Polish Remover

Jan 9, 2014

My New Year’s Resolution was to remove as many unnecessary chemicals as possible from my life.  I’m switching cleaning products, foodstuffs and beauty products.  And one of the first items on my list was an acetone-free nail polish remover.

I tried the butter LONDON Powder Room remover–what a joke.  I could have wished the polish away faster than the product removed it.  I tried Deborah Lippmann’s The Stripper remover, and it worked well.  But $19 for nail polish remover?  I think not.  And many stores list Essie Naturally Clean Polish Remover in their acetone-free section even though the ingredients list clearly contains acetone.  (Reading is hard.)

Priti Nail Polish Remover ($10)

Made from soy with a good amount of cleaning power, this Priti polish remover was my clear favorite.  It’s non-toxic and non-carcinogenic, and according to the website is derived from “farm crops.”   It also softens skin and keeps my cuticles from splitting post-manicure.

You do need to put a bit of elbow grease into the removal, but nothing too strenuous.  I also recommend using it in a well-ventilated area.  It may be natural and safe, but fumes are fumes, so open a window.  Otherwise, it’s a great product that does the job as well as most of the acetone-based removers I’ve used.

  1. I think I’m really good about avoiding chemicals, buying organic, etc. generally. But, when it comes to nail polish remover I’m all about efficiency, I’ve tried so many cleaner options, but in the end I want taking my nail polish off to be as fast as possible. I just wash and moisturize my hands right after and so far I really prefer the $3 drug store option.

I actually find the CVS acetone-free polish remover to be better than the removers that contain acetone (except for pure acetone itself).

I like the short ingredients list.

Yay, Belle! Congrats on going all natural. 🙂 I did the same thing a couple of years back and it has made a huge difference for my health, happiness, and conscience. I’m very excited to see more natural products reviewed in the future! Thanks for testing out those nail polish removers for us all.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
