1. Make Up Forever HD Pressed Powder ($36) // 2. CoverGirl Bombshell Bombshell Mascara ($12) // 3. Kiehl’s Jumbo Creme de Corps ($75) // 4. Anastasia Pencil Sharpener ($6) // 5. Bear Naked Nail and Cuticle Wipes ($9) // 6. Detox Dry Shampoo ($20) // 7. Butter London Boxing Day Ombre Fash Pack ($35)

It’s that time of the month when I celebrate my favorite beauty buys–the products that I loved and needed all December long.

One. If you need a powder to set your foundation, the Make Up Forever Perfecting powders will set it in place without feathering or that dry, powdery look.  I’ve used their powder before, but I don’t care for loose powders, so this pressed one is a godsend.  For maximum effect, don’t forget the large, poufy brush.

Two. When choosing a mascara, you can go for volumizing, lengthening or both.  My lashes are long enough, but they need a boost in the thickness department.  This Bombshell mascara is the only product that I’ve used in years that has me putting down my beloved Max Factor mascara at least a few times per week.

Three. The air in Montana is so dry.  My skin is just dying for some moisturizer.  Sadly, my beloved Creme de Corps Jumbo bottle doesn’t travel well (stupid TSA).  But when I get home, I am going to cuddle this bottle like a puppy.

Four. I recently purchased this Sephora pencil sharpener for my regular-size makeup pencils, but it won’t accommodate my largest pencils.  For my Anastasia highlighting pencil, I grabbed the brand’s jumbo sharpener.  Unlike most sharpeners I’ve used, it doesn’t clog up after a couple of uses.

Five. Nail polish remover smells terrible, is loaded with chemicals and will melt the finish off your dining room table if you spill it (don’t ask).  These wipes from Josie Maran are easier on the environment (and your skin), smell like grapefruit (or peppermint) and won’t spill.  Plus, you can carry them in your suitcase without fear.

Six. As much as I love Psssst dry shampoo, I do need a touch up around 2:00PM.  With the Drybar Detox shampoo, no touch up is required.  I also like that they have a formula for brunettes.

Seven. I absolutely adore the mix of colors in this Butter London polish set.  From a metallic pale purple to a vibrant, punchy pink, there’s a shade for every occasion. Prefer neutral colors like grey or chocolate-brown?  There is also a collection for you.  Want both colors and neutrals?  This set has a dark pink, pale pink, tan and grey.

I bought the Sephora sharpener but it doesn’t work on all pencils. I had to return it.

Belle, question about the Drybar dry shampoo. I recently tried the brunettes version and it WAS NOT for me – it left a brown, powdery residue that got all over everything – clothes, pillows/sheets, my hands if I put them anywhere near my hair. Wondering if you have problems having dark hair and using the Drybar original dry shampoo?

Also, have you every tried Too Faced Size Queen mascara? It is messy (I always have to use a qtip to clean up my eyelids after), but it does AMAZING things in terms of thickening and volumizing lashes! Might be worth a try.

Good to know. I was going to switch to brunette after my can of regular runs out. No trouble with the original formula at all, except maybe some dryness at the ends from multi-day use.

    • H says:

And RAR, I’m a lighter brunette and the regular formula sprayed on white. It dries up oil really well, but I couldn’t rub the whiteness in completely. Sad.

  3. I tried the Josie Maran Bear Naked Wipes for the face and they BURNED…!! But I suppose for nails (if I wore nail polish) I’d give this brand another try.

A mascara I really love is also from Too Faced, as H said, it is fantastic (I have dark eyelashes).

I tried the bombshell mascara. Pretty good, but I cannot get it off!! What makeup remover do you use with this mascara? I hate scrubbing the delicate skin around my eyes

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
