Today’s outfit comes to us from Atlantic-Pacific and editor Blaire Eadie. I love the mix of separates and color to create a striking, casual look. The layering is perfection and the accents, from the leopard shoes to the gobs of jewelry, really up the ante.
One. Sadly, Blair’s gorgeous red coat is from last season, but this double-breasted peacoat from J.Crew is a good stand-in. I also found this under-$100 Mango coat (change the buttons to gold, and it’s perfect) and this Style & Co. double-breasted peacoat. And if the gold buttons aren’t your thing, this red ASOS duffle coat is pretty fantastic for under-$150.
Two. A denim jacket is a versatile piece that can be worn in any season. I usually wear mine in the spring with sundresses. If you’d like to add one to your wardrobe for very little money, this Mossimo jacket is a nice choice. Want something darker? Try this jacket from Old Navy. Plus-size? This Lucky Brand jacket is a great option.
Three. In the photo, Blair is wearing black jeans. But having worked for a Montana Congressman who wore black denim on the regular, I can’t withstand the flashbacks, so I chose a skinny ponte pant instead. My favorite skinny black trouser? The WHBM Perfect Form Pant. They don’t stretch out as the day wears on, and they accommodate my pear-shaped hips.
Still want the black denim? Try these Madewell skinny jeans. Or bridge the gap and choose a pair of skinny black AG Stilt cords.
Four and Five. Blair is known for piling on the jewelry, but I prefer a bit subtler look. So for this outfit, I zeroed in on the essentials: a stack of bracelets and a black enamel ring. Not looking to collect a host of bracelets? This Forever21 set mixes a number of textures for less-than-$10.
Six. This morning, it was black-and-white stripe sweaters, and now, we have a t-shirt. I wear my striped tees constantly, so if you want to buy one for less, check out this $10 Style & Co. t-shirt. Plus-size? Have a look at this Vince Camuto striped tee. Petite? Try this Caslon tee.
Seven. A leopard loafer or flat can be a wardrobe workhorse in the chillier months. Animal print shoes add style to even the most basic outfit. Need something under-$100? Try these Ivanka Trump tassel loafer or these Dr. Scholl’s Really flats.
Eight. I love the classic look of this Coach flap satchel. So chic. If you’d like a similar look for less, you can find vintage Coach bags on eBay in varying states of wear. This Call It Spring cross body is also a good under-$50 option.
P.S. I thought I would never run out of ideas for these posts, but I haven’t been finding what I want on Pinterest. So if you’d like to suggest a pin for Pinterest Mondays, e-mail it to me at capitolhillstyle (at) gmail, subject line “Pinterest Mondays.” Thx!
I feel like I’m the only person who doesn’t like Blaire Eadie’s style.
I find her style to be hit or miss. More so I’m looking at her outfit thinking “What the…”, but every once in awhile I find something cool that I can replicate.
how do you feel about a striped tee with a chambray shirt over it instead of a jean jacket?
That sounds like a good alternative to me if the jacket isn’t for you.
That sounds much more comfortable than a coat over a jacket!
I love those shoes and they are exactly what I’ve been searching for — an un-embellished leopard loafer (not a ballet flat). Except they only go up to size 9 1/2. I wear a 10 and have searched piper lime, Nordstroms, etc. Do you have any other recommended sources to find a shoe just like that, but with more sizes available? Thanks!!

Thanks Monica — I would never have thought about Land’s End for shoes — but that is perfect (and the right size) and a good price! This blog pays off again!!!
