Don’t Discount the Gilt Workwear Shop

Sep 25, 2013

If you haven’t joined Gilt Groupe yet, you’re missing out. (Get a membership invite, here.)  They’re one of the few retailers that curates a workwear section where at least 90-percent of the pieces can actually be worn to work.  No minidresses, cocktail frocks or ultra-low tops masquerading as office attire.

I like to cruise their site from time-to-time looking for great finds. And this week, I spotted these two gorgeous dresses from Ava & Aiden.

Cap Sleeve Fit & Flare ($129) // Ponte Sheath with Contrast Trim ($139)

The cap sleeve dress is shown in navy, but also comes in black, crimson and cobalt blue.  And I love the blue and black colorblocking on the second dress, it’s a sophisticated combination that adds color and pop without being juvenile.

Also found in the Gilt Groupe workwear shop this week, an awesome selection of cardigans.  From drape front to traditional crewneck, there’s something for everyone.  This tuxedo cardigan in black and white caught my eye.  I was also drawn to this bright citron number from DvF.

Lastly, don’t miss the expansive selection of “ladylike pumps.”  They have neutral shoes like these black patent Kate Spade heels with a cut-out detail, and these brightly hued pumps like these gasp-worthy Corso Como heels in raspberry.  Did I mention that pop of color cost me just $59?  Yeah, bargain.

I’ve found several of my favorite pieces at Gilt, and I never miss their noontime sales.  My entire Rebecca Minkoff handbag collection was purchased from them at significant savings.  They really are lifesavers.

whoa, i love that cap sleeve fit & flare dress in navy (and the long cashmere cardi on the cardigans page). i’m afraid if i signed up at gilt right now all of my savings would get translated into dresses though. maybe when i’m not in between jobs. 🙂

Alex + Ava is also one of the fake brands that Gilt designs just to make it look like they are cutting prices. See e.g. https://nypost.com/2012/07/01/fashion-web-sites-bogus-brands-a-gilt-trip/
The dress may still be lovely, but something to keep in mind.

I thought so. I was eyeing a cute pair of boots and when I googled them to see if there were any reviews on fit, they only came up on Gilt.

Be advised: that the DVF cardigan is great but would look best on someone with a taller (> 5’6), less busty frame. I purchased it last spring and, unfortunately, found it made me (small and hourglass) look squat and pudgy.

It now sits in my closet, waiting to be listed on ebay…

I have also found that Gilt sales are frequently their own labels or a lesser quality line that existing labels create for Gilt. And many times their other items can be obtained cheaper elsewhere – 6pm has the same pump for $20 less: https://www.6pm.com/corso-como-craven

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
