Skirt: Raoul Pleat Detail Pencil Skirt ($85)

From Left, Ring: Northern Star Open Ring ($95) Bag: Marc Jacobs Lila Shoulder Bag ($328) Shoe: Kors Stephanie Pump ($295) Jacket: Mulberry Soft Biker Jacket ($2,300) Shirt: Silk Blouse in Tossed Hearts ($135)

From Right, Necklace: Stella & Dot Monterey Necklace ($89) Tights: Donna Karan 70 Denier Tights ($28) Bag: Tara Colorblock Tote Bag ($298) Sweater: Merino Turtleneck Sweater ($85) Boot: WHBM Nappa Stretch Boot ($200)

For the Office. No, I cannot afford this jacket.  You probably cannot afford this leather jacket.  But can’t we just admire it together?

In the attainable price ranges, I found this Andrew Marc jacket in cognac for $417, and this Collezione Faux Leather ($89).  Neither is the buttery soft lambskin you see above, but hey, at least they don’t cost as much as the downpayment on a Ford Focus.

I like the look of the simple black and white print blouse under the leather jacket.  I chose this J.Crew blouse, even though I am not the biggest fan of hearts, so I was really surprised that I liked this top.  If you want something a bit more feminine, this DvF Marcy top is pretty and stylish.

For the accessories, I chose this open, star ring because I think it’s desperately chic, and I have a thing for stars.  I selected these pumps because I wanted something a little unique, if you need something similar in a lower price point, these Aldo Ponder heels have a similar feel for $51.  The red bag was chosen for a bit of pop, though I think I like this Latico Crossbody just as well at $80.

For the makeup, I would wear a red polish, like Essie Lollipop, and a sheer red lip, like Fresh Sugar Lip in Cherry.  For the hair, I would wear it up in a French twist or a twisted bun.

For the Office.  I’m not usually the biggest fan of turtlenecks–I don’t like anything rubbing on my neck–but the color on this sweater is great.  It would look awesome with jeans and flats or with knife pleated skirt.  Or you could wear a black turtleneck with black skinny pants, for the full Audrey Hepburn.

Tall, high-heeled boots are something I need to find this season. My Ciao Bella Glaucia boots bit the dust last year and need to be replaced.  These WHBM boots could be a contender, though, given how much I wear them, I may bite the bullet and “invest” in these Loeffler Randall Viola boots.

These Donna Karan tights are my new favorite.  They’re 70 denier, so they’re super dark like Commando tights, without the quality issues.  Topshop also makes a 120 denier tight that I’m dying to try.

To lighten the look a bit, I chose a snakeskin and ivory bag with just enough black that it still works.  I also like this Milly Makene tote, if you have a bit more to spend.  And I added one long, single stand necklace to give the look a bit more pizzazz.  I also loved this black station necklace from House of Harlow.

For the hair, you could wear it down or up, but in either case, choose a soft style with some waves.  Unless you want to go really glam and do stick straight, long locks.  For the makeup, a dark wine polish like, OPI Malaga wine, and a good black liner, like Bobbi Brown Gel pencil.

Have you ever tried H&M’s 200 denier tights? They are all I wear. I think you can buy them at hm.com now, too.

    love the OPI polish!

  3. Elle says:

I love pencil skirts and buy ones that fit well in my hips and thighs without being too tight. My problem is by the time I get to work–between the car and 10 minute walk to my office–the skirt has done a 180 and the back slit is now in the front and I’m doing a little dance to try and discreetly turn my skirt around. How can I avoid this?

    • Katie says:

You need to take your skirts to a tailor. Since you are buying them specifically to have enough room in the hips (which is smart) they may not fit correctly on the waist.

    that jacket is amazing. 🙂

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
