1. Marc Jacobs Bolt Bracelet ($78) // 2. DvF Raelynn Ballet Top ($198) // 3. Alexander Wang Cowl Neck Tunic (sold out, sadly) // 4. Wine Tasting Soiree Dress ($53) // 5. Parker Ankle Boots ($278) and J.Crew Suede Ankle Cuff Pumps ($278) // 6. Zara Mini City Bag ($50)

One. This was the piece that inspired the color palette for the entire set.  I loved the mix of plum, fuchsia and blaze red.  If you like the look of a resin chain but want something more subtle, try this Kenneth Jay Lane bracelet with clear links.

Two. I like this deeper shade of pink; it strikes me as an “adult way” to wear pink.  It would look great with navy or grey or chocolate-brown.  I also found this Juicy Couture (I know, I know) blouse in the same dark pink shade.  The Juicy blouse has bows on the sleeves, which add a touch of whimsy to a button up shirt.

Three.  I put this set together using a sweater that I pulled from Pinterest and was heartbroken to learn that the sweater was last season and sold out.  Tragic.  I left it here because if you love it as much as I do, you might want to keep a lookout on eBay.  It’s definitely on my “future searches” list.

Not willing to wait? Ted Baker has this oversized turtleneck sweater, which is similar in style.  I also found this inexpensive v-neck Pim + Larkin sweater in a chic camel color.

Four. The shoulders on this dress remind me of a Roland Mouret dress.  It’s a very modern and sophisticated look.  And the gorgeous eggplant color isn’t too shabby either.  If you like the color, but not the style, try this simple Adrianna Papell pleated crepe dress.

Five. While J.Crew’s shoes have really increased in price over the past few years, they haven’t decreased in style.  These boots are sublime, and the pumps are so hot.  If these shoes are out of your price range, these red Adrienne Vittadini pumps are equally chic at $95 and these Aldo Arzt boots are a serviceable alternative at $120.

Six. Zara has some really great bags right now, this purple satchel is especially lovely.  Purple is a versatile color for a fall accessory because can pair with every neutral without being overpowering.  This Burberry bag makes me weak in the knees, but I need something a bit less expensive, like this Fossil Stanton satchel.

People can hate on Juicy all they want but the actual clothes (not track suits) are worth giving a chance. The blazers and dresses are really high quality and well cut for the price. Sure you may have to sift through some bedazzlement but they make a lot of nice staples that go on sale frequently.

Many of these (less the pink blazer) aren’t that far off from styles that are featured on lots of popular fashion blogs. And at least I won’t be seeing my exact same J Crew blazer four times per block on every other DC woman. Sorry, rant over. The J Crew explosion in this town really gets to me, obviously 🙂

Thanks a lot Belle. I clicked on the Modcloth Wine Tasting Soiree Dress, and then another hour of online shopping at work later, I had also acquired a pair of flats, a pair of boots, and two more dresses… You have been the worst for self control ever :).

The Find: Bright and Striped

For the past few years, the wardrobes of many influencers have tilted toward the beige and boring.  I’m all for a good basic, but staple pieces can only take you so far.  Sometimes, you need to wear something that has a little something extra, and this sale-priced tee certainly does.
