Happy Hour: Revelry and Rum Punch

Aug 15, 2013

strawberry blood orange rum punch-1-2

When I spotted this Strawberry Rum Punch, created by The Bojon Gourmet, all I could think was, “Yum.”  (Also, her photos are divine.)  She warns that the drink “goes down easy, but packs a punch.”  And once you see how much rum is in this recipe, you’ll understand why.  The cocktail is aptly named.

Not only was this drink gorgeous and tasty, I got to say “rum punch” with a Mary Poppins accent about twenty times.  It’s the little things.

This citrusy cocktail also gave me a reason to window shop for orange dresses.  Where this orange obsession originated, I do not know, but the force is strong with this one.  Just yesterday, I had to stop myself from buying another orange scarf, as I already have three.

I also loved this Phoebe Couture dress with faux-leather detailing–great for late summer, early fall.  This discounted Halston ruched jersey dress also caught my eye.  And this Donna Ricco twist-front jersey dress in burnt orange would be great for the office.

Prefer something under-$50?  This ASOS sundress with a cut-out back is fun, and this Sabine knit maxi is a relaxed way to wear orange.

Plus-size ladies should check out this watercolor print maxi dress from Lucky and this ASOS shift in lace.  Petites might like this Donna Ricco cowl neck or this pretty Amanda Uprichard frock.

That drink looks delicious, and the dress looks lovely! I, too, struggle not to purchase multiples of anything in an orange or coral color – it’s a problem. 🙂

My BF wanted to make rum punch for a recent party we had and I must’ve said “rrrum punch” in the Mary Poppins voice about 500 times. He thought I was crazy! So glad someone else likes any excuse to a)drink a pretty drink and b)talk in a Mary Poppins voice.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
