Fall Handbag Preview: Clutches & Satchels Galore

From Left, Cooperative Lady Bag ($49) // BR Bettina Satchel ($250) and Phoebe Printed Envelope ($50) // Old Navy Foldover Clutch ($23) and Armani Exchange Slouchy Crossbody ($128) // aldo Parkers Bag ($60) and J.Crew Claremont Clutch ($158) // Zara Leather Shopper with Zips ($179)

As the week goes on, I save items for Belle’s Weekly Favorites until I’ve built up enough pieces for a post.  But last week, I noticed that every item I was saving was a bag.

You see, I have a small handbag problem.  Some women like shoes.  I like handbags.  Clutches, satchels, totes, crossbody bags, shoppers, etc.–I love them all.  Here are a few fall handbags that caught my attention.

First from the left, we have a top handle bag from Cooperative at Urban Outfitters.  It’s versatile cognac color and clean lines are sure to please.  If you’re looking for a top handle bag, I would also check out this Street Level bag in kelly green and this Brahmin Delphine Bag.

In the second column, we have a stunning forest green bag from Banana Republic (also comes in red, tan and a gorgeous black and white).  Definitely waiting for a 40%-off sale to pick up this gorgeous thing.  And I adore the snow leopard print on the Sole Society bag.  If you’re looking for a leopard purse, try this foldover clutch from Stefani Bags or this tote from Sole Society.

The third column shows a tan AX satchel for traveling or weekend use.  I also love these inexpensive Old Navy clutches because they are perfect for storing makeup, pens or other essential inside my larger purses without making a mess.  And they’re much cheaper than the pouches Rebecca Minkoff sells.

Colorblocking is a trend that’s still going strong and with pretty bags like this one from Aldo, it’s easy to see why.  Prefer a little color in your colorblocking?  This Milly bag is grey with a hint of blush and this inexpensive Rachel Roy tote mixes navy and snakeskin.  I’m also obsessed with orange right now, so this clutch is perfect for me.  Though I may not be able to resist this Michael Kors messenger.

Finally, we have this modern, wine-colored bag from Zara.  Awesome.  There are a lot of pricey designer bags being made in this deep purple color, like this Anya Hindmarch and this Jil Sander, so it’s great to see a more accessible bag in this gorgeous shade.

So what handbags are you loving for fall?  Or are you saving your money for shoes?

how did you know i am in search of a new bag!

  2. Kate says:

I’ve been eyeing that BR Bettina satchel, but I ended up purchasing the Kate Spade Five Points Camille (https://surprise.katespade.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-KateSale-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=WKRU1901&dwvar_WKRU1901_color=679&cgid=ks-view-all#cgid=ks-view-all&start=16) in the sale yesterday. I still might buy that BR bag if there’s a good sale.

Still loving my bag from Lo & Sons that I bought a year ago. It matches everything, fits everything, and is really light weight and organized. LOVE IT

  4. Emily says:

I love this timely round-up. I look forward to needing more professional handbags when I’m an actual professional.

I recently picked up a Coach cross body at my local outlet mall at a very discounted price (https://www.ebay.com/itm/NWT-AUTHENTIC-COACH-CAMEL-ASHLEY-LEATHER-SWINGPACK-CROSSBODY-BAG-48121-/370869074325?hash=item565984f995). I had been looking for a small brown leather weekender bag for a very long time.

I am still eyeing the baggu small leather pouch in plum (https://baggu.com/shop/smallleatherpouch/plum) as a fun little fall pop of color to my bag accessories.

But my everyday fit it all tote from Neiman Marcus Last Call is still receiving compliments (https://www.lastcall.com/p/Neiman-Marcus-Colorblock-East-West-Tote-Bag-Yellow-Handbags/prod10130010/?ecid=LCALRFeedJ84DHJLQkR4…&ncx=n&uEm=%%affiliates%%&ci_src=14110925&ci_sku=prod10130010skuYLWLUG) even though I purchased it forever ago. Surprisingly the yellow works for both fall and spring.

  5. M says:

    1) Kate Spade surprise sale is going on right now and isn’t a bad place for a new bag.
    2) I loooooooove wine… Both the drink and my favorite color. I will be thrilled if its abundant in stores this fall. My wallet will not be thrilled.

  6. Ella says:

Belle, I love the crossbody bag trend, but I’m wondering if you have any suggestions for how to best navigate a crossbody bag with a larger bust. I’ve always been told not to separate your two breast friends, so is there a way to wear them without drawing undue attention?

    • Maharani says:

I have the same problem and usually avoid cross bodies. One I have works, a small Coach satchel with a thin strap I wear when walking in the mornings, and another black Fossil that holds stuff I need to preflight a plane….it is black and functional, medium thinnish strap. I think a longer, thin strap barely works with a large bust as it angles differently, the bag hangs lower and the strap is less visible. Other than that I avoid this style-it really only works if you are flat chested, like everything else in fashion.

      • Emily says:

Goodness, I hadn’t thought about that. I’m the girl who posted about her new Coach crossbody, and I have a larger bust. So far I’ve just worn it on one shoulder, and not across my body. I plan to continue that plan.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
