From Upper Left: Andean Alpaca Convertible Collar Coat ($399) // Halogen Cashmere Raglan Sweater ($85) // Theory Etia Satchel ($118) // Cap Sleeve Sheath ($79) // Trouve Shoulder Patch Blazer ($99) // Eliza J Seamed Knit Dress ($79)

The Nordstrom Anniversary sale is an event in my house.  When I was a kid, we would drive five hours to the nearest Nordstrom and use the sale to do our school shopping.  This year, I used it to do a little pre-shopping for fall and to pick up some essentials.

First, let’s start with the essentials.  The sale is a great time to stock up on tights. I like the Spanx ‘Tight End’ Tights ($18, also in plus-size).  And speaking of undergarments, I also stocked up on Shimera seamless wide-strap tanks and spaghetti strap tanks.  My friend T also has me addicted to these Zella ‘Live In’ Leggings ($34).

I also used the sale to replenish my supply of Creme de Corps Body Lotion with the 1L bottle ($75).  And I stocked up on my favorite Supergoop sunscreen ($38 for 3).

Second, now for the fun stuff…the clothes.

I bought this Andean alpaca coat and I love it.  It’s the softest coat ever and the shape is really unique.  Additionally, the foldable collar buttons at the neck to help keep the chill out.  I also love this car coat with studded sleeves ($45).  And if you’re looking for basics, this London Fog trench ($110) and this Patagonia button up jacket ($93) are great for fall.

This raglan cashmere sweater caught my eye; it’s a great basic.  I also thought this long cardigan from Rubbish ($38) looked cozy.  The Theory blouse above caught my eye, I like the sleek look.  And I fell hard for this Vince silk blouse ($233) and this Lafayette 148 tank ($110) that comes in several colors.

Trouve has a few stylish and inexpensive pieces in the sale.  I liked this black jacket (also in eggplant), this animal print blouse ($50) and this faux-leather trim pencil skirt ($45).

If you’re looking for special sizes, the Anniversary Sale offers a number of plus-size options and petite pieces.

Did you shop the sale?  Any pieces that you bought or want to buy?

I remember the summer I worked at a Godiva store in the mall. You know who wants to buy chocolate in the summertime with no gift-giving holidays looming? No one (this was before they started selling anything but chocolate, cookies, and coffee). So my coworker and I would take turns going to Nordstrom’s because they always scheduled 2 people and there really only needed to be one at a time. I got 2 mock-neck cable-knit cotton sweaters that I wore through 4 years at college in upstate NY and a few years of grad school in the DC area before they were too worn out to keep. Long live the Anniversary Sale!

Alright bought that Eliza J dress in blue. Too adorable to pass up. I’m hoping I’ll get some wear from it this fall.

    • LL27 says:

In case anyone was wondering – got the dress and it is so-so. I’m a pretty solid 8 and ordered that size but it fits pretty big in the waist area. The waist is also a bit higher than I prefer (not full on pregnant looking but pretty close). I have two Eliza J dresses and adore them so it’s a real shame!

  3. Shanycole says:

My family did the same thing!

  4. Amy says:

I shopped and I bought, a snow leopard clutch that’s coming with me to London this winter.

  5. Lauren says:

Ooooo love your recommendations. I get SO overwhelmed by the sale and figuring out what is and isn’t offered in stores, so it’s always good to see what other people have scoped out.

  6. Maharani says:

    DVF wrap dress.

  7. Whitney says:

I had been planning to save up to buy a pair of Frye Veronica Short boots later this Fall, but I ended up in the shoe section of the Anniversary Sale by *cough* accident *cough* and was surprised to see them there for $100 less than the usual retail price. I couldn’t resist!

    • Belle says:

I’ve accidentally ended up in the sale section before as well. “Just taking a look, not buying anything…(types in card number)…whoops!”

  8. National_Anthem says:

Hanky Panky underwear are on sale!
… which I never would have bought if it weren’t for this blog, but after seeing them recommended several times I bought a pair, and now I don’t know how anyone wears anything else. 🙂

    • Belle says:

Sold out in the color I wanted, but I just ordered the new seamless, non-lace ones and can’t wait to report back. They are pretty comfy.

  9. Amber says:

I purchased the Eliza J dress in magenta! Thankfully before picking my size I read through the reviews and saw that it runs a little big. Can’t wait to wear it!
