Happy Hour: Beer-garitas and Cotton Blouses

With Independence Day on the horizon, you may be in search of a crowd=pleasing cocktail that can be made in large quantities to serve party guests.  These gourmet Beergaritas from Piece, Love and Cooking are such a cocktail.

Beer margaritas are refreshing, infinitely sippable and can be made in a variety of flavors.  I’m partial to blood orange or clementine flavored ones, but lime is the most popular.

Swiss Dot Henley ($45)

I like breezy cotton shirts for family barbecues.  The weather out West is warm during the day and cool at night, so the shirts allow for layering.  They’re also washable, which is important when you gorge yourself on barbecue with reckless abandon.

I also like this structured tunic from DvF and this Theory henleyThis eyelet tunic is great if you’re looking for a longer length.  And if you need something sleeveless, I like the relaxed look of this shirt.

Want something in a print?  Maybe something you could also wear to work?  This Rebecca Taylor paisley top is nice, and it would look lovely tucked into a pencil skirt.  This Tory Burch tunic would be great with jeans on a casual Friday.

Plus size? I like this navy cotton tunic and this dotted blouse. Petite? This simple voile utility shirt is a good basic.

Happy Hour

Similarly, micheladas are basically beer bloody marys, and they’re delicious for summer!

  2. Cynthia W says:

We just call them beeritas – fewer syllables. They are yummy, but deceptively hard-hitting, if you aren’t careful and/or if whoever is making them has a heavy hand with the tequila.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Ask the Editor: Vol. IV, No. Eighteen

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
