Donate to Moore, Oklahoma

May 21, 2013

I had something else scheduled for this space.  Then, I saw this video from CBS This Morning about the devastation caused by the recent tornado in Moore, Oklahoma.  The video is so powerful, I would caution you to grab some tissues.

If you would like to donate to help the people of Moore, the Oklahoma City newspaper is recommending that you donate to either the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army.

You can donate to the Red Cross by texting “REDCROSS” to 90999 which will send a $10 donation (do not text from your government issued or employer issued phone unless you personally pay the bill).  You can also donate $10 to the Salvation Army, who will be setting up mobile feeding units, by texting “STORM” to 80888.

You can also donate online to the American Red Cross’s disaster relief fund.

As a transplanted Okie with family in Norman and Oklahoma City, I thank you for posting this. Family in Norman reports that the Salvation Army has been stalwart in their response to the crises.
Donating from your phone can be tricky – some providers take a fee from the donation for “handling,” and the non-profit might not see the funds for several weeks based on the billing cycles. Always good to check to make sure the money you donate is getting to where it needs to go and in a timely manner.

I’m here in Oklahoma City and really appreciate this post. Love reading the blog on a regular basis… and glad to know others are thinking and praying for us here in Oklahoma during this tough time.

Today marks a year in DC for me, but I’ll always be an Okie. “Oklahoma isn’t a place. It’s something in your blood. It’s something that you do. It’s the shirt off your back and a tear in your eye and the giddyup in your soul.” Thank you for posting the info on how to help my home state. My DC fashion guru, you’re truly doing something bigger than just what we’re wearing, and I appreciate that. It makes a difference. While my family is all safe, I have friends who have lost their apartments and all their belongings, and it will take a lot for the OKC community to rebuild. But we do, we will, and we thank you all for any help you can give!

I live in Moore OK and I really appreciate you posting this! I love your blog and am originally from the NOVA/DC area. Here are other ways for people to donate locally to Moore and the other areas affected by the tornados this week: https://newsok.com/article/3828009

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

Three Outfits I’ll Wear All Spring

When I started this blog, influencers still re-wore clothes. There were no haul videos filled with the latest from Shein before it winds up in a beach in Ghana poisoning the planet. There were no sponsored campaigns delivering fresh wardrobes each month. The content machine doesn’t like reruns.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
