two ways blush tie neck top 1

Top: Tinley Road Tie Neck Top ($49)

From Left, Earrings: Giles and Brother Drops ($32) Ring: Mother of Pearl Ring ($60) Bag: Claire Double Zip Satchel ($50) Skirt: Alize Printed Skirt ($92) Shoes: Ann Taylor Perfect Pumps ($128)

From Right, Earrings: Graziano Opalescent Studs ($25) Bracelet: J.Crew Wide Bangle ($28) Belt: Perkins Round Buckle Belt ($9) Bag: Oasis Crossbody Bag ($53) Shoes: Pelle Moda Flat ($80) Pants: J.Crew Cafe Capri ($90)

Since it’s intern week, I tried very hard to keep every item under-$100.  The Ann Taylor pumps are the only exception, and with their penchant for sales, you could easily find buy them for less if you’re patient.

For the Office. I’ve been looking for an excuse to use this skirt for a while.  I love the mix of colors and the shape, and the contrast waist band just pushes it over the top.  I also like this floral mini, and this black and white floral skirt from White House, Black Market.

Take a moment to check out this bag…look familiar?  That’s because it is a knock off of the Modalu Pippa bag that we were all so crazy for last year.  The less expensive bag from DSW also comes in a pretty blush and an ivory color.

The shoes are the Ann Taylor pumps from yesterday’s Ask Belle.  They also come in a kitten height and a pointed toe.  Definitely worth the investment, in my opinion.

The jewelry is silver to match the hardware on the bag.  This isn’t essential, but I try to coordinate when possible.  These drop earrings are lovely, but not too pretty.  And I adore the marcasite and mother-of-pearl ring, but since I’m not much for silver, I think I’ll try this similar one in gold.

For the makeup, I would wear a pop of pink on the cheeks, black liquid liner and pale pink fingernails.  For the hair, I would wear it down and bouncy.

For Casual Friday.  Interns: You cannot wear shorts, mini-skirts, mini-dresses, backless tops or leggings as pants to work.  I don’t care if it’s casual Friday or not.  You still work in a professional office, even on Fridays.  And you still need to make a good impression regardless of what day of the week it is.

Instead of abusing casual Friday like a Schedule I narcotic, why not try a pair of casual trousers.  Here, I’ve used a brilliant blue capri pant, but you could also choose a simple full-length or ankle-length chino.  Plus size? Try Land’s End.  Petite? Brooks Brothers has an ankle length pant for you.

If you’re a skirt person, try a swingy cotton skirt.

I thought these pave studs were a great alternative for women who find pearls just a bit too prissy.  They have the same shimmering quality without the country club connection.  I also like this simple crossbody and the tan belt to pull it all together.

As for the shoes, they have a rubber sole and a padded footbed, so I’m hoping they’re comfortable.  If you’re looking for a cheaper pair of gold flats, these $20 Mossimo flats are nice and these pewter toe caps are also a good choice.

For the hair, you could wear it down, or if you’re running late, spray in some dry shampoo and pull it into a ponytail or bun.  For the makeup, I’d choose a raspberry lip gloss and a healthy application of mascara.

For the casual Friday look, do you tuck in the blouse?

Ask for Student Discounts!! Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, J.Crew, all give discounts with a valid student ID between 10-20% off regular priced items but you have to ASK!!

I found this very similar pair of laser cut gold flats at TJ MAXX last week for $25.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
