The Kentucky Derby is this weekend, and while I’m a bit overwhelmed by the fact that it is already May, I can’t wait to sip a mint julep and watch the race. Preparing a proper mint julep is a skill. You need to mix just the right amount of mint, sugar and Bourbon to make it perfectly, and people usually skimp on the mint and overdo the sugar creating a julep that tastes more like bad cough syrup.
Luckily, the folks at Esquire have a guide to creating the perfect julep. So whether you’re headed to a party or sitting on the couch with a cocktail in hand, give this drink a try.
Ted Baker London Floral Dress ($295)
This floral dress is pretty and charming, and perfect for a summer party. I love that there is a lot of print, but that it’s still not overwhelming. Pair it with a pink clutch and a great wide-brimmed hat ($58!) and you’re all set.
I also like this floral shift from Madewell, this brightly colored Kate Spade and this unaffordable but gorgeous Giambattista Valli.
Looking for something under-$100? This graphic, waterlcolor print is nice. This Juicy dress has a fairly simple floral. And this Modcloth dress comes in a monochrome palette, but has a lovely cut and print.
Plus size? I love this sleek shift and this full-skirted dress. Petite? I like this blue and white floral, and I love the classic pattern on this cap sleeve dress.
Today is my Friday, so I’m giving myself a night and day off from the blog. I intend to drink margaritas and read a book and go to bed early. I couldn’t be more excited.
Have a safe and happy weekend!
xoxo, Belle
love both! The drink brings back so many memories, and the dress…what a southern garden charmer. Beautiful it is.
Are you going to the VA Gold Cup or the Derby? I’m headed to the Gold Cup & I’d love to meet up and share some of my secret recipe mint juleps if you’re there! 🙂
