Broadcasting Style: Emily Thorne’s Wardrobe

Revenge is the kind of campy classic that makes Sunday nights just a little bit more fun.  Sure, I’m looking down the barrel of a Monday morning (ick), but at least I can pour a cocktail, put on my pajamas and indulge in the occasionally ridiculous exploits of heroine (villain?), Emily Thorne.

Emily’s wardrobe is a combination of downtown chic, evening elegance and Hamptons casual. Her clothing focuses almost completely on cut and color with few other details.  She also wears minimal jewelry, but owns some chic bags and shoes.  So let’s break down Emily Thorne’s wardrobe by the elements with some help from our friends at StyleBistro.

Feminine Blouses.  From gauzy white tanks to boldly, colored tops, Emily has a bevy of sleek blouses to choose from.  I love this Halston Heritage blouse, and this black peplum top.  This racerback cut-out blouse from BCBG is phenom.  And if you need something under-$75, this crisp, eyelet blouse is lovely and this American Apparel top is a good basic.

Long Sleeve Dresses.  Whenever Emily decides to play the role of businesswoman/philanthropist, she typically reaches for a long-sleeved sheath dress.  This basic Nicole Miller lbd is a great place to start.  I also love this v-neck navy dress from Ralph Lauren.  And this $50 JCPenney dress is a chic affordable option.

Plus size? This Adrienne Vittadini dress comes in the most gorgeous color, and this Rachel Pally is lovely.  Petite? The Ralph Lauren mentioned above also comes in petite, and this Nicole Miller is divine.

Cozy, Neutral Cardigans. How does a woman keep warm on a chilly Hampton’s evening?  With a snuggly cardigan and the burning rage in her heart.  Seriously though, I was done with cardigans until I saw ET wrapped in a cozy-looking camel one and had to buy this J. Jill one.

And even though I’ve been having some issues with J.CREW, I still love their cardigans.  This Tippi cardi is my favorite.

Tailored Blazers. Emily loves to pair a crisp blazer with a feminine blouse or t-shirt and denim.  It’s as close to a uniform as this girl gets.

To stock your closet with sleek blazers, I would start with a navy jacket with contrast piping. I like this one from C. Wonder and this Anthropologie one for an updated take on the look.  I also recommend longline blazers like this one from Forever 21 and this one from Mango.

Fitted Evening Gowns.  I may not attend a black tie fete every month, but having a well-fitting gown in your closet is a must for many professional women.  I’ve been invited to inaugural balls, black tie dinners and charity balls at the last-minute a few times.

How about this bold red gown?  This subtle mauve?  If you prefer black, the flutter sleeve is an Emily Thorne favorite, as is sheer illusion.  And if you’re in the mood for a plunging neckline in demure white, try this dress.

Sleeveless Sheath Dresses.  In addition to long sleeve dresses, Emily loves a sleeveless sheath.  This floral dress is lovely.  I like this bold yellow, and this basic grey.  Petite ladies will like this pretty white dress with scallop detail.  And plus size ladies should try this belted navy dress.

Sleek Workout Wear.  Emily loves to run, jump, kick and fight her way to a killer figure, all the while donning fashionable workout attire.  Zip-up jackets, sleek running leggings and fitted sports tanks are all part of her repertoire.  And let’s not forget her utilitarian swimwear.

Classic Pumps and Riding Boots.  Specializing in classic, understated footwear, Emily keeps it chic but basic.  For casual wear, she loved a tall riding boot, like my favorite Ciao Bellas.  And while Emily’s heels are usually Jimmy Choo, these basic black Joan & David’s are nice.  I also like these pleat-detailed beige pumps and these bow-embellished ones.  And I.die.for these printed ASOS pumps.

Delicate Jewels.  While her Best Frenemie, Ashley, may wear a lot of statement jewelry pieces, Emily’s style is decidedly more subdued.  On her ears, she might choose a crystal drop or an Indian-inspired filigree earring.  On her wrist, it’s usually a simple pearl bracelet.  And around her neck, it’s either a bezel set diamond or a long pendant necklace like this Gorjana or this long mosaic pendant.

I just started watching Revenge and absolutely love Emily Thorne’s wardrobe. I have been browsing everywhere to try to find a dress which she was wearing during tea with Victoria – it’s a short v-neck; cream, green and black in colour…..Any help please?? 🙂
