Absolutely Mad About Mauve

Mar 21, 2013

I like to keep my daily beauty routine subtle and natural.  You won’t see me wearing neon or dark burgundy lipstick, too severe for me.  But this season, I am loving the soft and pretty mauves on the shelves.

The great thing about mauve is that it’s a color that works with many skin tones on women of all ages.  For the lips, you can easily wear it during the day or jazz it up for evening (may I recommend this look with a mauve gloss?).  The blush is a great look whether you’re winter pale or summer bronzed, and it gives a natural flush that isn’t too much.  And on the nails, mauve is more grown up than pink and not as bold as red.

Want mauve at drugstore prices?  For the lips, try Cover Girl Gloss Pencil or Maybelline 14-Hour Lip Color.  For blushes, NYX makes a great mauve option and I’ve heard that Maybelline FitMe Blush is the closest drugstore brand to Bobbi Brown for sheerness and wearability.  And for the nails, this NY&C polish looks perfect and this polish from Cover Girl has a really rich color.

    Hi Belle,

Can you specific which Cover Girl nail polish color you liked? The link brings me to the default “crystal clear” color. Thanks.

Soiree Mauve by Essie is also nice.

I’ve been using the Maybelline 14 hour lipstick in Infite Iris. It’s slightly more pink than mauve but perfect for my skin tone. It doesn’t really last 14 hours, but it does last 8-10 so it works for the whole workday.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
