Happy Hour: A Spicy Morning After

Mar 1, 2013

Recently, I attended the bridal brunch and unlike many of the ladies in the crowd, I do not enjoy tomato juice, so I do not enjoy Bloody Mary drinks.  But one of the ladies was insistent that I would like the drink she serves at brunches: The Spicy Michelada.

michelada-1

The Spicy Michelada is similar to Bloody Mary but it has no tomato juice, zero, nada.  Instead, the ladies at Spoon Fork Bacon created a cocktail that combines Mexican beer (Corona, etc.) with hot sauce, paprika, jalapeno and other spicy ingredients to create a serious morning-after hangover cure.  And might I suggest that it tastes best with breakfast burritos (I like the ones with the hashbrowns mixed in), while wearing…

J.CREW Vintage Pajama ($95)

My friend TW is obsessed with real pajamas.  She is insistent that wearing a traditional pajama set is a chic and cozy classic.  When she found out that I usually sleep in a cotton tunic, she was appalled.

A classic set like this one from J.CREW is a great option, it also comes in nightshirt style for those who, like me, don’t like to sleep in long pants.  Also, J.CREW factory has a similar set for less.

If you prefer a short set, Eberjey makes a lovely classic style and Forever 21 has a cute heart print set.  And if you just want a nice, comfortable jersey set, Figleaves has you covered.

So do you like the classic pajama, or do you sleep in something else?

I usually sleep in shorts or yoga pants. Traditional PJ pants tend to ride up in my sleep and it bugs me to death. Not to mention most PJ pants are really short and don’t even hit my ankles.

  2. Cynthia W says:

I can’t sleep in long pants and I feel like tunics or gowns end up wrapped around my waist. So… I generally sleep in cotton knit sleep shorts and an old tshirt. Sexy, I know.

Occasionally, I’ll wear a negligee, but I generally sleep in the above ensemble. The hubs doesn’t seem to mind.

  3. BN says:

Soma makes amazingly comfortable PJs in fun patters (I have leopard print and a silk set with diamonds on it), as well as classic solid colors. SUPER comfortable.

  4. Hillary says:

I have the J. Crew vintage pj’s and love them. I usually like shorts or tunics too for sleeping, but they are great for lazy days at home. I do sleep in the top a LOT. Plus, so cozy 🙂

  5. Mary says:

I like traditional pajama pants, but I don’t like the button up shirts. My favorite pajamas for cold weather are fleece or flannel bottoms with a soft, long shirt t-shirt. In the summer, I like shorts with a tank or cami.

  6. Shelley says:

I have to sleep in a tight tank and leggings or anything form-fitting because I can’t sleep when clothes bunch up on me.

  7. I hate pajamas and usually sleep in as little as I can get way with, but I’ve been thinking about getting a pajama set from J. Crew for conferences. I mean, what if the hotel caught fire in the middle of the night and I had to scramble around for clothes before leaving?!

  8. CH says:

If it’s really cold I might start out in leggings or pajama pants, but my fiance is like a furnace, so I end up shedding layers in the middle of the night. I usually just sleep in a camisole and undies.

  9. Vanessa F says:

I have several pajama sets that I love, but they’re mostly for lounging around the house. When it comes to sleeping, I usually wear as little as possible because I’m a hot natured person but I also love having lots of blankets on my bed

  10. Elizabeth says:

Michelada is a well known hangover cure in border towns. Convenience stores sell styrofoam cups with the spices pre-mixed….you add the beer. It’s much better than menudo!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
