Belle's Weekly Favorites–December 31, 2012

Dec 31, 2012

1. Reiss Wallis Print Cardigan ($120) // 2. Botkier Eden Calf-hair Bag ($275) // 3. Joomi Lim Double Row Spike Bracelet ($108) // 4. Alexander McQueen Crochet Organza Dress ($4,478) // 5. Verona Flecky Print Scarf ($73) // 6. Otte Alex Top ($245) // 7. Miu Miu Suede and Glitter Ankle Boots ($850) // 8. Sara Weinstock Rose Quartz Drops ($2,760) // 9. Donna Karan Gypsum White Pencil Skirt ($1,110)

One.  I love the metallic sheen on this cropped open cardigan, and the soft blush color can be worn with work separates or over a cocktail dress.  Prefer a cardigan with buttons? Then this may be the one for you.

Two.  This black handbag is positively chic.  I love the structured style, the gold hardware and the mix of textures.  It’s a great work bag with a bit of spirit.  If you’d like something less expensive, ASOS has some great options.  This doctor’s bag is $130, and this satchel with a gold metal bow is $56.  But my favorite is this top handle satchel with metal corners for $70.

Three.  This Joomi Lim bracelet mixes gold and silver (it also comes in rose gold), substance and edge to create a very unique piece of jewelry.  If you like the look, but would like to spend under-$100, the single bracelet is $88.  You can get a similar look for $13.

Four.  This dress is over $4,000, and it’s 70-percent-off.  Talk about a disappointing sale for those of us without a Rich Uncle Pennybags.  But it’s Alexander McQueen, what can you do?

Would you like something lovely and chic for under-$100?  This Dorothy Perkins dress is sophisticated and pretty.  I also love this lace print organza gown in black and white from Milly.

Five.  This lightweight grey and black scarf is a great option.  The small print and contrasting stripe would mix well with black and white pieces or with bold colors.  It also comes in a navy and white print with a rust-colored stripe.

Six. I’ve posted a number of blush-colored blouses on the blog over the years, but this shirt from Otte is my favorite.  I love how versatile they are and how chic–because anywhere you would wear white or ivory, you can wear blush.  This blouse has limited sizes, but it’s under-$50.

Seven. How I got sucked in to the glitter bootie trend, I don’t know, but I did.  These sued and glitter boots are under-$100 and have a heel, but I think most professional women will be happier with a flat boot for the weekend, so this slightly more expensive pair may be better.  If you like them, I would wait for them to go on sale, because this trend is likely to end up on the sale rack in a month or two.

Eight. I love the mix of rose quartz and black metal in these earrings, but they are SO pricey.  These teardrop earrings are $70 and very similar, but they don’t have the black accent.  If you would prefer a pale pink necklace with a reasonable price, this mixed media necklace is eclectic, but I think this delicate pendant is more my taste.

Nine.  I purchased a winter white pencil skirt recently and I love it.  This Donna Karan is pretty fantastic, but far too expensive for a normal person.  This J.CREW skirt is my favorite, but the sizes are limited.  This $55 Calvin Klein skirt is also a great option if the J.CREW is sold out.  Want something with texture?  This organza skirt would be a to.die.for option for a cocktail party.

The McQueen dress would be a fantastic wedding dress for those brides with vintage style. Too bad I'm not getting married soon…and don't have a spare $4000 for the dress!

  2. Diana says:

I love the idea of a winter white skirt for the office but can never figure out what to wear with it in terms of tights and shoes/boots for the cold winter weather. I'm a tights and tall boot kinda gal because I commute via bus in the cold. Can you share some ideas and photos? Thanks

  3. CynthiaW says:

I second Diana – because my first thought is to wear cream-colored tights to keep the 2/3 rule going, but I don't know about wearing white(ish) tights. Maybe with a cognac tall boot to break up the cream?

I'd love to change things up from the standard black/gray pencil skirt and I love the way that winter white looks on other people, but definitely need help with the styling.

  4. Belle says:

Diana: Grey with grey, black with black, chocolate brown with chocolate brown. You can't pair the skirt for the 2-out-of-3 rule, so you have to match the shoes and tights. You could also wear navy, but that might be a little “high seas”.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
