BPGP: Sprout Makeup Remover

Sprout Makeup Remover ($12)

Since I switched back to my winter makeup, a heavier blend of bb cream and moisturizing balm, I’ve been having a difficult time removing all of it.  I use makeup wipes.  I wash with soap and water.  But still, I feel like I’m not getting all of it off.

I’ve tried many makeup removers over the years, and I’ve hated most of them.  I use them until the bottle runs out, and then I never replace it.  A friend suggested that I try this one (she received it in her Birchbox), but I was sure I would hate it too.  I’ve tried removing my makeup with olive oil, and didn’t like it, so why would this makeup remover from Sprout, which is essentially a blend of oils, be any different?

After a week spent using this product, I have to say that I’m fairly impressed.  It removes even stubborn eye makeup easily, and it doesn’t leave my eyes red and itchy.  It also removes the stubborn makeup that use to fill in my brows, a product previously unremovable without the use of a blowtorch.

And, it is probably too soon to say this, but I think the essential oils are actually helping my skin.  I had a scratch on my cheek that would usually take a week or more to heal, but since I’ve been using the Sprout remover, it’s healed up nicely.

Lastly, the product also doubles as a light moisturizer that is great for sensitive skin.  My friend has been using it on her skin since the weather turned breezy, and she says it has really helped stave off the winter dryness.

I use Dermalogica's PreCleanse, which seems similar – a blend of oils that removes dirt and makeup – and I love it. It's definitely helped my skin too, or at least helped my other products to work better since there isn't a buildup of makeup to contend with!

I'd be interested to try Sprout though, since it's all natural. Two questions though – how big is the bottle you get for $12? And do you apply as directed with a cotton ball? Or can you just apply directly? What i like most about the precleanse is that you just slather it on, add a bit of water to lather it up,and then rinse off!

I use baby soap (J&J head to toe baby wash) to remove my makeup. It works like a charm and it's so cheap! It's really gentle on my face, and since it's designed for babies, I can use it on my eyes without fear. Everything just rinses easily off my face. They usually have the small travel sizes, so you can try it out without having to buy the whole bottle.

I use a home made version of that remover (equal parts olive oil & jojoba oil with a tablespoon of vitamin e oil) as a skin cleanser. It's much cheaper if you make it yourself! I rub it on my skin at the end of the day (over makeup), let it sit for a bit, then hold a hot washcloth on my face for about 30 sec before using it to rub off the rest of the oil mixture. The makup slides off. If I need it, or if it's really dry out, I'll apply a few drops after cleansing to seal in the moisture. It's really helped my combo skin!

Belle, what is the eyebrow makeup you use that can't be removed? I have trouble with mine fading by the end of the day and am looking for something more long lasting. Thanks!

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
