Happy Hour: Winter Sun and Splash

Oct 5, 2012

Today’s cocktail comes from the blog Two Tarts, which is just too adorable for words.  The drink is called the Winter Sun Cocktail and it contains a delicious blend of clementines, lemon, triple sec, vodka and rosemary.  Yum.

As you know, I’m a sucker for citrus.  But not only is the mix of flavors positively divine, the cocktail looks beautiful.  This would be a great libation to serve at a dinner party, a cocktail hour or a bridal shower.

A Detacher Daisuke Dress (La Garconne, $702)

I love this airy silk dress in a combination of nude and orange.  The architectural neckline is great and the color combination is to die for.  But if you’re looking for an orange dress for fall that isn’t so modern, or so expensive, I have some suggestions.

If it’s chilly where you are, this sweater dress from Loehmann’s will keep you cozy and chic.  Looking for something for an early-fall wedding? This crossback Asos dress might do the trick.  This washed silk, boatneck Tibi dress is versatile enough to wear in any season.  And if you’re looking for something relaxed, but cocktail appropriate, this rust-colored dress is a lovely choice.

Have a great weekend!  Don’t forget about the Taste of D.C. happening on Pennsylvania Ave.

xoxo, Belle

I think you forgot to include the link to the last rust-colored dress.

That cocktail looks too pretty to drink but it also sounds absolutely delicious. Might have to try soon! I also really like that dress (I'm not sure it's typically my style) but sipping that cocktail in that dress would be perfect (well, I like that dress minus the hefty price tag!). Thanks for the inspiration!

I just nabbed that ASOS dress for a wedding on the 20th! so pretty and a doable price. Question – I am small-chested, what kind of bra would work best? I have a 'nu bra' but since the lace paneling goes rather low, I think it would show. Anyone have any advice?

Congratulations, JW, for snagging that dress. I love ASOS. I'd love to hear what other people have to say about your bra questions…tough one here. I'd think about maybe doing a nude backless bra or a nude spaghetti-strap tank. I'm sure others will have thoughts about my suggestions and hopefully have better ones. While the tank has drawbacks like not wanting anything on your back, I am wondering if that might be a better option than a bra with a back, which would draw more attention than a smooth nude-colored back. My 2c. I hope somebody comes back and gives other/better solutions.

    Good luck!

JW: I honestly didn't look at the front before I posted, whoops. But I think what I would do is ask a tailor to sew a piece of nude fabric under that lace. Because that looks really low to me, but I think that if you added the fabric you'd be covered in more ways that one.

JW – It sounds like you might be able to go braless. I would try the dress on with breast petals and do a length mirror check. Also do a walk, move & dance test to see how much bouncing shows. Be sure to check in different lighting. There's more visibility in natural, outdoor light than a dark party. You want to be sure of what you're sharing before you're out and it's too late to chnage.

    Belle, love the drink!
