State of the Blog: The Moving Day Blues

Oct 1, 2012

This weekend, I moved into my new apartment.  The process should have been simple and straightforward, but my landlord and I have disparate ideas about what constitutes move-in ready.  So I spent six hours on my hands and knees scrubbing like Lady MacBeth, only to step out of the shower this morning and be stabbed in the foot by the yellow toenail clipping of some unknown male.

Needless to say, I’ve hired a cleaning service to shampoo the carpets, wash the walls and sanitize every flat surface in this place.  Because I will not be able to sleep soundly until this apartment is sparkling clean.

As you might imagine, moving and cleaning left me with little time to blog.  So I’m allowing myself a short mental health break to rejuvenate and rest.  (Read: Sit in my sweatpants on my sofa, watch Revenge and eat a bowl of gelato.)  CHS will be back tomorrow morning.

xoxo

Belle

Ugh, sorry to hear about the state of your new digs. I encountered this issue when my fiance and I moved into our apartment. As a tenant, I couldn't imagine allowing my home to accumulate such ilk, much less leave it behind for another person (and possibly compromise my security deposit).

    Enjoy your rest!

Yuck – the part that would make me the maddest is that I left my last rental immaculate. Kidding not – the apartment people said that it was the cleanest apartment they'd ever seen and we got back even the non-refundable part of our deposit.

Even with moving into a brand-new house, there was still some cleaning that I had to do, but it wasn't bad.

  3. Thanks so much for the link love! Blech, I'm sorry to hear about your apartment move in. My apartment previous to my current one was the same way — food still stuck all over the stove; bath tubs not cleaned; random, ugly furnishings left in the house and not cleared out — NOT COOL. I can relate. Eat another scoop of gelato and relax!

Hey Belle– What cleaning service do you use? I've been looking for a service that will do a good deep-clean of my apartment. Thanks!

,,,i couldn't decide wheather to laugh or cry for you. how was the gelato? i once moved to a sweet cottage from the outside but on the inside one would have never noticed. the former tenant had long red hair and i kept finding it EVERYWHERE! and then i met HIM and recommended he purchase some rogaine. let the cleaning service do the dirty work, no pun intended,,,

The Beauty Edit: Neck Creams

Nora Ephron was right: I feel bad about my neck. As I move through my forties, the creases have turned into chasms. The skin sags like a pair of sweatpants with aging elastic. It’s not great. But it’s just a natural part of getting older. Over the past year, it feels like I’ve tried every […]
