Happy Hour: Refreshing, Yet Classic

Hattie Jersey Dress (French Connection, $168)

This dress is a classic.  I love the clean lines, the mix of neutrals and the fit.  I’d add a belt for more definition at the waist, and wear it with black tights and boots.

A classic dress deserves a classic cocktail.

Even though I have never tried one, I’ve heard that gin & tonics are delicious.  The Kitchn has some tips for making a better gin and tonics, especially how to choose flavorful garnishes that complement the flavor of the gin.  So if you like the G&T, check out the post.  And if you have any gin and tonic tips that you’d like to share, leave them in the comments.

  1. Aunt_Pete says:

Use really fizzy tonic. Buy the smallest bottles you can (I like those little glass ones that come in six packs). Don't ruin your lovely gin with a 2 liter bottle of Safeway brand tonic.

  2. To echo Aunt Pete, Fever Tree tonic. Their light tonic is great as well.

  3. Amy says:

Fresh lime juice is best, but a splash of Rose's lime juice gives a G&T a light sweetness that I really like.

  4. H. says:

How have you never tried a gin and tonic?! (I don't mean that judgmentally — it's just that they're delicious; you're missing out!) Jaleo's revamped cocktail list has an entire G&T section, which has some interesting options.

  5. Belle says:

H.: I have a gin allergy. Drinking a G&T would put me in the hospital.

  6. Sally says:

How have you never had a G&T? totally lame.

  7. ktb says:

Gins and Tonic, not Gin and Tonics

  8. Valerie says:

Belle- have you tried making G&T recipes with vodka instead? My dad is not a big fan of gin, so at home we've substituted vodka in some of the classic gin cocktails.

Our current favorite for fall/winter is a clementine G&T (or V&T). Instead of adding lime to the gin or vodka/tonic/ice mixture, you add the juice of one clementine, two if it's a large glass. It's amazing.

  9. Betts says:

The color blocking on the dress gives plenty of waist definition. Slapping a belt on would be overkill. And a very similar dress can be had from Zara for the low price of 79.90.

  10. Ann says:

Agree with Aunt Pete! Personal favorite is Hendricks gin with cucumber instead of lime. Super refreshing in the summer

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
