10th Commandment: September 6

Jeweled Sweatshirt (J.Crew, $118)

Several years ago, I bought a lightly sequined sweatshirt with a hood thinking that I’d wear it on the weekends.  I wore it constantly.  I wore it with jeans on Fridays.  I wore it with heavy wool skirts on Mondays.  I wore it with a long pleated chiffon skirt to a birthday party.  I loved it, and I was heartbroken when the dry cleaning solution turned it from a gorgeous charcoal grey to a sickly mauve.  But this jeweled sweatshirt from J.Crew might be a good replacement.

If you like this look but can’t justify paying more than $100 for a sweatshirt, you’re in luck.  Mango has a very similar sweatshirt with a little less bling for $49.  If you’re problem is that you need more sparkle, VS has a sweatshirt for that for $50.  Aqua has a cool sweatshirt with sequins on the shoulder for $69.

    Wow, this is just perfect!

  2. L says:

Welp, looks like I will be spending $118 on a sweatshirt. This is amazing!

  3. A says:

A hooded sweatshirt? To the office?? Even sequined and on a casual day, that seems too far.

  4. lisa says:

Really, a sweatshirt? I have a hard and fast rule of no sweatshirts outside the house. Ever.

  5. Caroline says:

This looks like a candidate for a DIY project! A $20 trip to AC Moore, a night with a Netflix movie and a needle and thread, and it'll be mine!

  6. L says:

A hoodie…with a chiffon skirt…to a friends birthday party? I had to read this post twice to make sure I got it right. This is unexpected. Is it April Fools Day today? Belle, I really want to trust that you looked good in that combo, but I'm having an awfully hard time conjuring up a good mental image.

  7. Zaza says:

This will look really great with my sequined Uggs and frayed denim mini skirt.

Really though- this is cute, but… This looks very childish to me. Adorable on a 5-15 year old. Not adorable on a 25+ year old except if paired with jeans and hiking boots as a glammier version of a necessary item (in other words, this is only acceptable in situations when any other sweatshirt would otherwise be acceptable). A sweatshirt at the office? No way!

  8. Ugh, you gotta be kidding me. This reminds me of the chambray button down my Mom decided to embroider.

  9. Ellie says:

Sorry, gotta go with A, Lisa, and Zaza on this… Yikes.

  10. T says:

Did April Fools move to September 6th and no one informed me?!?! …Please tell me this was a joke post to see if we are paying attention. A hoodie…with sequins…in a shade of GREY… not so much.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
