Polyvore Set Here.

On my Pinterest page, there is a board titled “Outfit Inspiration.”  It is exactly what it sounds like, a collection of outfits that I would like to recreate in my own wardrobe.  And I thought that it might be a good idea to start recreating a few fall looks from that board here.

I like this outfit because the wearer has taken several relaxed, casual pieces and combined them to create an incredibly chic look.  I love the proportions of the oversize coat with the skinny jeans.  I like that the tops are just a t-shirt and a sweatshirt.  And I appreciated how the accessories–a Mulberry satchel, aviators, ankle boots and a cable knit scarf–lift the look from basic to modern and stylish.  I would be happy to wear this look on a fall day in D.C.

I think the key element to this look is the coat.  For the set, I used a Polyvore friendly Reiss coat.  However, I actually think that this coat from All Saints, with its looser fit, has better proportions.  It’s a bit early for the stores to be flooded with winter coats, but here are two more options in friendlier price points from Michael Kors and Asos.

Lastly, in the photo, the woman is wearing a dark red polish.  Since burgundy and oxblood are so big this season, I used Essie’s Burgundies polish instead.  If you’re shy about trends, or about burgundy, your nails are a great place to wear it.

I'm intrigued by the short boots in theory, but how do you wear them with jeans? Skinny, boyfriend cut? Tucked in? It looks like a fun, cute/comfy trend, but I'm a bit perplexed.

  2. Kate says:

I have been looking for a camel coat with bracelet sleeves! This one is gorgeous, but seems to be old Zara that isn't even on ebay. Woe is me.

  3. Terri says:

    Timeless and AGELESS! awesome post.

  4. HH says:

In love with this – and it's actually something I would wear in real life! (Hardly ever happens with outfits I love.) Sadly, my camel overcoat is not a boxy cut, and I do agree that it is critical to this outfit.

  5. love it says:

what great idea for a regular feature!

  6. Jill says:

Essie nail polish is remarkable. Not only are the colors great, but it also goes on beautifully and wears the same. And it's less expensive than several brands.

  7. Norwegianette says:

Would you consider taking requests for outfits to recreate?

  8. Belle says:

Norwegianette: I don't' see why not.

  9. Maharani says:

Nice outfit but she needs to lose the glasses. I am learning to fly a plane-and no pilot I know wears aviators. I wear RayBans to preflight the plane if its really sunny, but frankly they get in the way of instrument checks, and I havent needed to wear sunglasses while flying yet-they interfere when you are looking for air traffic, which can be hard to detect as it is, and with a lot of other things too-and polarized glasses prevent you seeing instrument dials properly. The wrong glasses mess with your headset too. The longer I fly, the more irritated I get with this particular “style” item. Fantasy Fashion that has nothing to do with real life.

  10. EBT says:

… But Maharani, the girl in the photo is clearly not flying a plane. What exactly do you take issue with? The term “aviator” itself? I mean, it's just a cool and classic style. I don't think anyone puts them on and says “Oh man, I'm basically a pilot now. Probably people will think I'm off to fly a plane since I'm clearly wearing these aviators.”

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
