Happy Hour: Oh, Chartreuse

Aug 10, 2012

Mason by Michelle Mason Silk Georgette Dress (Net-a-Porter, $530)

I’m not sure why I’m drawn to this dress.  Bright chartreuse isn’t usually my cup of tea, so I’m guessing it has more to do with the subtly sexy sheer shoulders and trim.  I simply love dresses with sheer material.

Michelle Mason also has a daring dress with a sheer back that comes in this bright green and black for $286. But if you love the look of sheer, but can’t commit to paying such a price for it, Asos has a number of options like this embellished mesh dress with a sweetheart neckline and this sleeved dress with a sheer panel.

I also loved this sheer lace dress from Modcloth for $55 and this all black number with a sheer bodice from Max & Cleo for $80.

And just in case I have to say, this dress requires a strapless bra.  Otherwise, you’ll ruin it with your visible undergarments, making it tacky instead of sultry.

The Grapes of Wrath Cocktail

This cocktail may not be chartreuse, but it contains the herbal liqueur called Chartreuse.  The drink was produced by award winning bartender Matthew Biancaniello from The Roosevelt Hotel in L.A.  It is a mix of gin, crushed Concord grapes, simple syrup and chartreuse that is sure to please those looking for a fruity cocktail with herbal notes.  You can find the recipe, here.

I like the flapper-style Mason dress, but the sheer backed one reminds me of figure skating costumes I used to wear as a teenager. Something about the nude tone mesh fabric and the tight front…it's just missing the sparkles.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
