1. Cloche Jewelry Holder ($98) // 2. Tara Jarmon Ivory Dress ($385) and Julie Haus Terrace Silk Dress ($160) // 3. Paul Smith Electric Swirl Notebook ($23) // 4. Steve Madden Inspirre Flat Boot ($170) // 5. Green Quartz Atelier Ring ($660) and Pearl Top Ring ($140) // 6. French Connection Ruffle Silk Flare Top ($98)

Polyvore Set Here.

One. I keep most of my jewelry in trays that sit atop my dresser.  The trouble is that there are pieces that I wear almost every day, and they wind up stacked haphazardly on top of the trays.  This glass and tree jewelry stand looks like an art piece, but it will help keep my most popular jewelry pieces organized and visible.

Like the look, but want something less expensive? This copper jewelry tree or this abstract metal stand would do the trick.

Two. I love the sculpted asymmetric hemlines on these two dresses.  The first, by Tara Jarmon, is perfectly tailored for the office.  I love the structured crepe, and we all know how I adore dresses with sleeves.

The second dress, by Julie Haus, is the perfect, versatile party dress.  If you have a number of weddings or cocktail events this fall, this dress will be your salvation.  You could add a belt–studded, sparkly or silk.  I would choose this metal plaque belt from Chloe.  Also, I wouldn’t ruin the neckline with a necklace, but a cool cuff bracelet or dangle earrings would be fab.

Three.  I am positively smitten with this abalone printed notebook.  I love the mix of all my favorite fall colors so much, that I couldn’t resist buying it.  Sadly, it will probably just sit on my desk unused, since my penmanship is so poor that I never write anything down.

Four.  It’s almost boot season!!! I can barely contain my excitement.  And these cognac Steve Madden’s with just the right amount of wedge, and no ridiculous zippers, studs or details, will hopefully find their way into my closet.  If you’re also looking forward to rocking a pair of cognac tall boots this fall but need something in a friendlier price point, Target has a great pair of very similar wedge boots for $35.

Five. While sparkly baubles are a girl’s best friend, I love these two rings because of their roughness and their imperfections.  The green quartz ring has a mix of metals and textures for that rustic look.  And the pearl ring is anything but fussy with its hammered band and muted finish.  I also loved this $50 grey pearl ring from Pandora.

Six. Eggplant is one of my all-time favorite colors, and this blouse is the perfect shade of deep aubergine.  I also love the drapey pleats in the front and the fuller cut.  If you also love dark purple but aren’t feeling this top, Bailey 44 has a similar blouse with an asymmetric neckline that would be lovely under a jacket for work or could be worn with a pencil skirt for a dinner date (and it’s under $40).

I adore eggplant as well, but I never know how to pair it. Black seems like a no and I can't get gray to capture the richness of the purple that I love so much. I have a number of eggplant items (jersey dress, jersey halter top with silk ties, pencil skirt etc.) so I would appreciate some advice. Maybe closer to fall? Thanks, Belle!

LS: You need a darker grey, like a charcoal. I also like it with navy.

Your post about the jewelry organizer caught my eye because I was on the hunt for a jewelry organizer for my many neckaces and FINALLY found one. I recently purchased this and put it on the inside door of my closet. It was easily the best $24.99 I've spent in a long, long time!

Wow. That dress looks like the hem is falling out to me.

  5. NB says:

The glass around the jewelry tree is key! I made my own jewelry display by tacking craft mesh into a picture frame to hang earrings on, and then screwing hooks into the frame for necklaces and rings. Having my jewelry on display was great and I wore all of my pieces instead of re-wearing the same ones all the time. However, it was amazing how quickly everything tarnished in the humid east coast air! Keep your jewelry covered so you don't have to keep polishing it all the time!

P.S. Belle, how do I polish the silver/metal bits on all of my pearl jewelry without ruining the pearls? Silver polish specifically says that it is not compatible with pearls.

  6. Sam says:

Do NOT buy the boots from Target. I normally am an advocate for anything Target-related, but I waited for these boots to come back in stock, only to have the heels re-glued a month later, then the heel tip (if that's what it's called) broke off days later. Spend your money on better quality.

I'm glad that I”m not the only one who buys notebooks that she never writes in.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
