Ann Taylor Friends & Family Sale

Aug 2, 2012

Ann Taylor is having a 30-percent-off friends & family sale.  Here are some Belle Recommended, Belle Approved pieces that you can pick up at a discount.

Leopard flats are going to be a wardrobe staple this fall.  These animal print flats are $128 ($90 after discount) and since they’re patent leather, they’ll be easy to keep clean.

During August, I wear nothing but dresses with sandals.  This season, I’m restocking my supply with this Squiggle Print Dress ($88 down to $62), this Drape Neck Nouvelle Sheath in cobalt ($98 down to $70) and this City Sheath Dress ($138 to $97).

The key to making Ann Taylor pieces look great on you is that you need to have them tailored to fit your body.  Often, they’re big in the top or the waist.  But at these prices, you can have them altered to fit you like a glove and still save off retail price.  So unless you need something really complicated, your dry cleaner can probably do the tailoring work for you.  If you need something more serious, try Cheryl Lofton or Stephen the Tailor.

I’m also loving this flouncy, striped skirt for $78 marked down to $55.  I’d wear it with a brightly colored blouse tucked into it or a dotted top.

And lastly, Ann Taylor is a great place to stock up on accessories.  I adore this black and gold medallion pendant ($68 down to $48), it would look great with a black dress. I also love this chevron silk scarf ($68 to $48).  And if you’re a person who doesn’t wear belts, this Vachetta tan skinny belt is a great place to start at $20.

I love that you can shop ann taylor online. Its a great way to boost basics with a touch of trend and color pop. It continues to frustrate me they never have my size in what I like. and when I say never…I mean neve. I mean less than half the timer. With the nearest store 500 miles away…it is frustrating. Good luck to the rest of you who find what you want in your size. Truly a great opportunity to boost that transition into fall wardrobe.

I'm so glad you mentioned tailoring – it is worth it to get the right fit. You mentioned Cheryl Lofton, visit her site for location (NW DC, Shaw) & hours, she's awesome!

Re: the tailoring, you might also want to try their clothes in petite sizes. I always thought Ann Taylor looked kind of matronly on me – too long and kind of an awkward fit in the waist/hip area, but I was recently in Banana Republic (where thanks to vanity sizing, dresses in particular sometimes fit strange in my normal size), and the sales associate suggested I try the petite size of a dress I was iffy about. I'm 5'6″ with a medium build, so I had never even considered it. It was like a new world opened up! Last time I was in Ann Taylor, I tried on a few dresses in petite and suddenly, styles that looked like potato sacks in regular sizing, looked much more tailored and suitable for a 20something. I know petite sizes tend to also have narrower shoulders and a higher waist, but this didn't seem to be a problem in the styles I tried. Just throwing it out there, since I've always just walked right past the petite section.

do the patent flats run small? I have received the 5.5 ones at home but debating whether I need to try the 6s

  6. Belle says:

JulieY: Ann Taylor's shoe sizing always struck me as a bit wonky. With a pair of shoes I bought this summer, I bought the 8.5–too small, then the 9–too big. But I think I'd try to go to a store and try the 6s, if you can't get to a store and you like them, I'd give it a try.
