10th Commandment: July 27

Jul 27, 2012

Velvet loafers have been popping up on a lot of fashion blogs lately.  At first, I wasn’t interested, but they’re growing on me.  Maybe I’ll buy a pair for casual autumn days, an alternative to ballet flats.

Elected Official

Miu Miu Velvet Slipper (Net-a-Porter, $650)

Hill Staffer

VC Signature Zan (Vince Camuto, $195)

Unpaid Intern

  1. I desperately wanted a pair last year andfor some reason it was SOOOO hard to get my hands on one that I liked. This year they are suddenly everywhere. Isn't it funny that when you desperately want something, you can't find it anywhere and as soon as you are over it there is no shortage of suitable alternatives.

  2. Leanne says:

Speaking of the Anniversary Sale – I just bought these: https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/steve-madden-chaufur-flat/3326508?origin=keywordsearch&fashionColor=&resultback=800

    Another great velvet loafer option!

  3. Sarah says:

I have liiiived in velvet loafers for the past two autumns. They look great with skirts and tights, jeans with no socks or thin black socks, or black pants. Classy flats!

  4. K says:

This one is in between the staffer and intern price points and another great option.

I also felt very “eh” about velvet loafer but the more I see them the more I feel the need to purchase a pair for fall. I think I'll be picking up a pair at the Nordstrom sale this weekend.

  5. Kelso says:

Ok, I happened upon an absoloutely PRISTINE pair of Italian burgundy velvet loafers, not a single scratch on the sole (these babies were never worn outside)…for the princely sum of $4. Snapped them up since I saw them on your blog, but now I need ideas for outfits to wear with them!
