10th Commandment: July 25

Jul 25, 2012

I’ve never been particularly enamored with my monogram.  The one exception would be signet rings. Old or new, I think they’re so stylish.

Elected Official

Jordann Gold Vermeil Signet Ring (Max & Chloe, $245)

If you want to customize your ring, you need to buy a blank like this one that can be engraved to suit your taste.  If you want something less expensive, any jewelry store from the mall to 5th Avenue sells blank rings for engraving.

Hill Staffer

1800s English Gold Signet Ring (Etsy, $149)

Antique signet rings can be found on Etsy, eBay, at antique shops or in Grandma Millie’s jewelry box.  I especially love rings, like this one, that look aged.

Unpaid Intern

Signet Initial Ring (Urban Outfitters, $20)

What are your thoughts on monogram necklaces? I'm leaning toward thinking they're adorable, but I'm not sure if they veer too much to the tacky side. Would love to see what others think.

  2. Amanda says:

Belle, this is off topic for today, but I remember you posted on Tuesday that you ordered the j.crew shirt dress in end-on-end… it is now sold out online! That was quick. Anyway, I got it in navy blue last night, and I love it. I hope you like yours just as much. It has an unusual shape–it is basically just a big, almost tent-like A-line starting under the shoulders, but gathered with the self sash or another belt, all the volume looks very pretty. Good luck!

  3. Belle says:

Chloe: Depends on the necklace. I think some of the larger ones are gaudy, but they can be cute.

  4. APW says:

Great post! I absolutely love my signet ring. I received it as a Christmas gift in college, and I think it becomes prettier and prettier as it ages. It is definitely a timeless piece that I treasure.

  5. Chloe says:

Agree with your comment, Belle. I'm trying to find a smaller one in silver, since I never wear gold. I layer two very small necklaces every day, so need something that goes with both of them. The search continues!

  6. Erin M. says:

Chloe – if you aren't sure about the necklace I have a monogrammed silver cuff that I got as a present a few years back that i just adore, that could be something too look into too… it looks a lot like this one, and this store has the necklaces in silver too!

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
