BPGP: Peter Thomas Roth Laser Free Kit

Jun 19, 2012

I’ve struggled with acne since I was a teenager, and now that I’m 30, I’m struggling with the scarring it left behind.  With my makeup on, the uneven texture and dodgy pigmentation is barely noticeable.  But once the makeup comes off…let’s just say that the first swipe of the tissue should come with its own sound effect.

I’ve thought about laser resurfacing, but allowing someone to use a laser on my face sounds extremely dangerous.  What if the tech doesn’t know what she’s doing?  What if my skin reacts badly to the procedure?  What if the plastic surgeon has recently changed his name from Dr. Moreau to trick unsuspecting women into his lair of doom?

This is too much uncertainty for me to handle.

I decided to try the Laser-Free Kit from Peter Thomas Roth ($75) after reading the reviews on Sephora.com.  The great thing about Sephora is that if you try a product and you hate it, you can take it back within 30 days.  So what did I have to lose?

The first night, I set aside my usual routine to wash my face with Roth’s Anti Aging Cleanser ($35) and apply the Laser-Free Resurfacer and the Laser Free Regenerator from the kit.  I also applied a bit of my usual night cream because my skin felt a little dry.  And then, I went to bed.

The next morning, I woke up to discover that the little bit of acne on my cheek had cleared considerably.  The patch of recently healed acne on my chin was completely gone, and the rest of my face seemed smoother.  Never before had a product done so much good for my skin in such a short period of time.

I’ve been using the kit for about a week now.  Not a long time by beauty standards, but there has been a noticeable change in my skin.  I’m hoping that if I keep using the kit that the positive changes will continue.

How long do you think the kit will last? My Clarisonic has made a world of difference (seriously, thank you), but it's also not all I need.

  2. Lauren says:

That's exciting! I love seeing results. I'm also interested to know how long $75 will last. Much cheaper than laser treatments, though.

  3. HMB says:

What kind of makeup do you use to cover your acne scars uneven texture? I have slightly uneven texture and can't seem to find anything that adequately hides it!

  4. Dr. Jean Grey says:

I, too, struggle with adult acne. And, I'm a huge fan of PTR unwrinkle pads. They keep my face fresh. I've been using faithfully, once or twice a week, for about 2 years now.

Do you know if you can use it if you are a retin a user or do you have to stop the retin a a couple days before using?

  6. Nora says:

BPGP is my most favorite feature. Partly because the way you describe your skin is pretty much exactly how I'd describe mine – so I feel like everything applies! Have you ever used the Kiehl's Rare Earth line? It's pore-minimizing and I'm totally intrigued – especially in the daily cleanser and the face mask. I can't figure out if the daily cleanser is good for use with my Clarisonic or no.

  7. meg says:

Belle – can you do an update in a month or so to let us know how it goes? I no longer struggle with acne, just the scares left behind so I'd be very interested to hear how well it works for that!

  8. Ashley says:

A mini-version of this kit was available as the “500 Point Perk” from Sephora's Beauty Insider at the store I visited last week. Thanks to this review I was able to use my carefully saved points to try a small version for free! Thanks for this review, I'm so excited to see how this helps my skin!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
