Last week, I spotted this adorable orange ice cream truck driving downtown. I was so enamored with the idea of a real ice cream truck serving premium scoops of mint chocolate chip and peanut butter cup ice cream, that I e-mailed the company immediately to ask for a favor.
You see, Capitol Hill is something of a food truck dead zone, and I thought my fellow Hill denizens deserved a little love. And a scoop of ice cream during a recess week sounded like heaven to me.
Luckily, the good folks at Orange Cow could not have been nicer and agreed to come down to the corner of 1st and D SE (near T-Coast) at 2:30PM tomorrow. So make sure to stop by for a scoop or two, it’ll be the best $3 you spend all week. (You can also track their movements on Twitter.)
I’ll be the girl wrist deep in a triple portion of coffee oreo if you want to say hello.
Nina: A few of them park behind Cannon from time to time. I think it's because there isn't as much foot traffic more than anything.
r: Is it still altruism if it was motivated by a need for ice cream?
Thanks Belle! A sweet little sugar rush will be a great afternoon pick-me-up!
I. Love. Coffee. Oreo.
Sadly, it is the (rational!) security measures that keeps large trucks from getting close to the Capitol and/or the staff buildings and parking for long periods. I work on 2nd and Constitution NE and our catering trucks have to get searched, though it really isn't too time consuming. I know time is money in the food truck biz, but I wish more food trucks would take the time. I'm hungry and lazy too! Park outside my building!
Good for you for using your power for good 🙂
OMG. Their ice cream is delish!!!! I was there early and the driver/owner was asking for you! I sent you a tweet about that but I wasn't sure if you would see it since my account is protected.
Too bad I am not in Capital Hill so I will definitely miss out. Coming from Los Angeles (living n DC now), food trucks are on every corner. Here, not so much!!! Hope it was good!
