Happy Hour: For the Crafty Among You

May 11, 2012

I have a confession to make: I am not crafty.  Friendship bracelets, pot holders, scrapbooking, knitting, all of these hobbies are too advanced for my limited DIY skills.  But when I saw a tutorial from Honestly WTF on how to make gold dipped champagne glasses at home, I was like “I need these. Now.”

I will be gold dipping this weekend.  Maybe I can convince Miss M to help me, as she is actually crafty.  But a word to the wise, I was informed by someone who used the tutorial to wear something you don’t care about because even when your careful, you will get little bits of gold paint on yourself.

After we finish, maybe I can treat Miss M to a glass of bubbly?  My favorite brand of sparkling wine is Piper of Sonoma Brut.  It’s $18 a bottle and it tastes just as good as Veuve Clicquot at $44.

Happy Hour

This is the most amazingly beautiful yet simple craft I've seen in a long time – i'm totally doing this to my wine glasses! Thanks!

Paint doesn't stick to glass very well. These are going to look cute for about one use and that's it. The paint will scratch off really easily, and I can't imagine that washing would go well. Sorry to rain on your parade 🙁 Maybe transfer the inspiration of gold angles to your nails. Imagine pale pink base with half (at an angle) of one nail painted gold or the thinnest band of gold on the tip of each nail.

I think if you make sure that the glasses are absolutely fat and residue free and you wash them by hand you will be fine.

They are not meant for daily use, I am sure.

I might have to do something like that to a vase… but with silver.

HEre are some tips for spray painting glass. You need to prepare the surface to get it to stick, just like any other kind of project.

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
