Two Ways: Ikat Print Skirt

Skirt: Ikat Print Pencil ($98)

From the Left, Earrings: Astley Clarke Pebble Earrings ($210) Bracelet: Satin Gold Cuff ($112) Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Cupid ($495) Shirt: similar Bow Blouse ($88) Shoes: Liorah Slingback ($135)

From the Right, Earrings: Bamboo Hoops ($132) Shirt: Gap Tank ($15) Bag: Yasmin Clutch ($148) Sweater: Jackie Cardigan ($62) Shoes: Georgica Sandal ($149)

For the Office.  I love a printed skirt with a feminine blouse.  It’s one of my favorite work combinations.  It’s a little unexpected on Capitol Hill, because this is a place overrun with solid colors, but it’s not too out there.

I’m really into mixing colors this season.  So for this set, I paired a coral bow slingback with a bluish-green drop earring.

I kept the rest of the jewelry simple with a wide cuff.  I like to wear these on the outside, over the cuff of my sleeve.  I’ve been wearing a similar bracelet of my own like that, and I like the modern look that it gives.  Plus, it guarantees that you see the bracelet.

Also, if your office is more conservative, you can easily add a white blazer over the blouse and switch out the shoes for a grey slingback.  Muted color palettes are also very big this season, so you’ll just be working with a different trend.

For the hair, I would wear it up, especially if you choose to wear a blazer.  I’d probably choose a slightly less structured updo over a French twist or a tight bun.  For the makeup, I would wear coral nails to play off the shoes and I’d keep the rest of my makeup neutral, except my eyes which I would play up with a touch of shimmer near the tear duct and under the brow.

For Sunday Brunch. Yes, this is the same yellow sweater from last week.  I added it for no other reason than I am addicted to the yellow/white/grey color combination.  It is just so bright and chic, and this sweater is the perfect shade of yellow.

This look is great for a post-Church brunch or a casual Friday (though probably sans sandal).  I don’t do silver accessories often, because I prefer warmer metals, but I like these bamboo hoops.  If $132 is too much to spend on a pair of earrings, try this $4 pair from Forever21.

The sandals are Jack Rogers, but I think this style is more stylish than the traditional Jacks.  I like the cobalt purse with the yellow, but you could also do green, orange or metallic.  The added color just gives the look a little something extra.

For the hair, I would wear it down.  You could do a light wave or a straight style, curled under at the ends.  For the makeup, I would say a neutral eye with defined brows (key with bright colored clothes) and lots of mascara.  I might also wear a pinky gloss, not electric, more rosy.

Great outfits but eek on those sandals. They look like the sort of shoes you'd see paired with the capris we all love to hate.

I love these! I have a very similar skirt in black and white ikat. Do you think I could swap that out for the gray one here? Maybe a pink sweater instead of yellow?

  3. Kady says:

Love this skirt. Am a tad concerned that the color is “chocolate” instead of a word that might actually suggest gray. Might still pull the trigger on this one just to see.

  4. Belle says:

Kady: I know. I saw that too. BR Heritage does a kind of taupey color, and it could be that. I make no assertions as the accuracy of the photo, I just choose to believe it's grey.

Would love to see some sort of guidlines for pairing printed skirts with colored tops. I always default to black tops because I'm too chicken to try anything else!

I saw this skirt in the store and, Kady, your color concerns are spot on. Belle is correct in saying it's kind of a taupe or “greige” I wouldn't describe it as a true grey or a true brown. That being said, with the right accessories, etc., it could probably fit into a look as either brown or grey.

I actually tried the skirt on and it's a nice material, etc. I wound up not pulling the trigger because the pleats fell very oddly on me and I didn't think it was a problem that could be easily fixed by a tailor-something to be aware of for other ladies with muscular/thick thighs and butts.

I may have to go try that skirt on. I like how you can do all those different colors with it.
I hope the pleats mean that although it has a slim line it's a little roomier across the lower hip.

I was recently introduced to your site and I love the outfit suggestions (as well as accompanying links). I have been an avid follower for the past couple of weeks and check on your updates fairly frequently. I work in a corporate setting and the outfit combinations, make-up, and hair solutions allow me to be youthful yet professional. Thanks CHS!

Majorly love the pebble earrings with the office look. The whole outfit is great, but the earrings are to die for.
